Straight line winds, gusting up to 85 mph. Not a tornado, just a severe storm with wind, rain and hail. So many friends reported downed trees and property damage. We’ve had no power since yesterday afternoon. 130,000 residents without power. Our electric service is staring it could be as long as two weeks before power is restored.

I am SO DONE WITH 2020! 😭 Can we just fast forward to next year, please?🙏

Last year there was an extreme storm on the west coast that left some 120,500 customers without power for weeks upon weeks, and many were still without power until after the holiday season.

I'd need a straightjacket and rubber room!

I experienced a storm similar several years ago. Learned new word from news broadcast = it was called a derecho . It uprooted huge trees all over town.

Central VA. June 2012. Widespread power outages that lasted weeks.

Oh Ronni, sorry to hear that!.

Keep the freezer door shut, stuff will last 2-3 days. If it only just thaws, it's still good.

If you have gas or an outdoor grill, cook the meats, bag them for other dishes, put in a picnic cooler with ice. If you can shut the cooler up in the fridge box, do that. You might save some for stews, chilis or sliced for sandwiches in the near future..

Good luck!

Oh, no! We went almost a week in March. Totally no fun even with generators. I hope yours is on quicker than two weeks.

The generator is running full blast, powering the refrigerator, and the freezer in the garage, plus keeping our phones charged. Gonna switch the power from the fridge to the hot water heater for half an hour so we can all take a quick shower.

Grill is up and running. Hand washing dishes. Gonna have to start hand washing clothes if this goes too long.

Yeah it was a derecho. The only thing missing was the tornados.

And another one is predicted tonight!!! 😱

Seriously I am so effing done. 😡 We had a tornado that ripped our porch roof off and devastated half of Nashville then Covid-19 hit and I haven’t worked for 6 weeks then I ended up living out of a suitcase at Paige’s house because Sheri broke quarantine and now derecho storms that have knocked out power to 130,000 customers for 2 weeks with another similar in intensity tonight!

MAKE IT STOP! 😭

Ronni-------I have flown around straight line winds, or as we call them in aviation, Microbursts. This type of wind has brought airplanes crashing to the ground, like the one in Dallas. Planes now have microburst detection system onboard.

I so know what you mean about this year tho' Ronni...I had a little meltdown yesterday..just got really emotional over things that have all gone wrong this year, ..I keep thinking that it's all unreal, 'till I wake and realise it's all too real... hand me the remote control..FF to 2021... >>>>>>>>>

Yes. Exactly. Microbursts are part of derecho storms from what I understand. The photos are devastating! 100 year old, healthy trees ripped out of the ground by the roots, power poles snapped like twigs one after the other...just blows my mind.

I haven't heard that word (Derecho Windstorms) in a long time. I still remember flying through Kansas City and going to Denver back in the early '90's. We saw this large shelf cloud formation. It was the first time that I had actually seen one outside of a simulator. The First Officer said to me to "Look at that." I told him that we didn't want to get into it. So we made a 100 mile deviation, but we got to Denver safely and only 15 minutes late. The passengers never knew what they missed out on. The next day, we read in the newspaper "USA Today" that Kansas City and the surrounding areas were pummeled with the same storms.

Stay Alert, Nashville! We just had a really nasty front move through a couple of hours ago. There were no tornado warnings in the area, but the sustained winds and gusts were extreme, and very heavy rain for almost an hour. If this storm veers a little bit South, Nashville will take another potential hit later this evening.

That’s exactly the prediction from our weather service @Don M. It sucks. 😖

I know. I keep reminding myself that the house is still standing, we have a generator, there’s plenty of food, we can even get a hot shower if we divert the generator power for a few minutes and we’re really quick.

It’s just .... I’m just overwhelmed with all the crap that keeps happening, and my resiliency is being sorely tested. 😟

OMG! I hope you don't have a full freezer! Being without power is terrible. I did it for three days during Hurricane Sandy and it was cold then. Finally went to stay with my son and DIL. I hope the power gets turned on much sooner than expected Ronni. I certainly agree about that FF.

How are your roads? Can you leave the house if you need to?
We were blocked in my multiple downed trees the last time this happened here. Not fun.

There is only one road out of the subdivision. To the right is the freeway, but is totally blocked by downed trees and 3 power lines snapped in half, but to the left is open and we can eventually get to the freeway that way.
