Oldman suggest I post my old photos.You got it...

These are rather sad photos for me. Haven’t lived here since 1959 and it was a well maintained home. My great grandfather built it in 1900.

The first thing I noticed was the beautiful lilac tree in back. At least no ones destroyed that. The house is now in rough shape. The window over the porch was my room. Many a night I laid out on the roof and stared at the stars. It was so dark, one could see millions of them. The room to the left was originally the kitchen with a beautiful wood cooking stove and a dry sink with a hand crank for water. There was no indoor plumbing. We spent many hours sitting on that porch snapping string beans or just talking about our day. A photo in its better days from the driveway.

Same thing happened to me and one of my sons at a town festival and I did wind up paying for a few copies.
 
Those pics are priceless and precious @Pappy .... brings back lots of memories for us too just seeing the types of houses built back then, the landscapes, cars, etc. I grew up in New Jersey so parts of Maryland look very familiar. Keep posting these cuz all of us will be taking those trips down memory lane by viewing them, in one way or another :giggle: xo....now ya got me thinkin should I dig out my old ones, phone pic them and post here, hmmmm.....will think on it tonight 😴

A newspaper took a photo of my infant son. I gave permission for them to use it, which they did. When I called to ask for the picture, they offered to sell me this piece of metal that had the image engraved on it - used in printing, I assume. It was, I believe, $4 - but oh so permanent!

Cal and his friends would toss the ball in that yard in front of the trailer. I believe he was in a farm team at the time. I spent 12 weeks of school here, learning to repair heavy equipment. Whoa! I spent time down there at the military proving ground. That's just over the line from Pennsylvania and is divided by the Susquehanna River. Do you know if that house is still standing?

Cal, Jr. built a pretty nice baseball stadium down there. It's home to the Aberdeen IronBirds, which is a single A team in the New York-Penn League. There is also a really nice little league stadium next to it and then a regular all turf baseball field on the same grounds.

I don’t know if the house is still there. It was a bit out of town, but could be a Walmart parking lot now. Last time I was there was to see my son who was attending Warrant Offices school, many moons ago. He retired last year so it was indeed awhile ago.
 
To follow up on yesterday’s story, the building in todays picture was just to the left of the main house. The open area, to the right, was the wood shed and held saws and various wood tools. Needed lots of wood for kitchen stove. It also had doors on it. The bottom section was just a storage area and we kept our garbage in there too. I use to sit on the porch and shoot rats with grandpas 410 single shot shotgun.

The area upstairs was where we kept lots of chickens. A big area was wired off, so they could come and go as they wished. After my uncle got out of the capon business, I claimed it for my clubhouse. My buddy and I had to shovel 3 inches of hardened chicken crap before we got to the floor. Once cleaned up good, and a little paint, it was a decent place to spent a night and play board games.

You can’t really see it, but everything was built on a side hill. So right behind the chicken coop was our woods which was a fairly hard climb to the top. I hunted in these woods for years. I loved growing up here. We didn’t have a lot of money, but we were content with what we had.
