My old house, your old house, upkeep on your house, yard, whatever. What are you doing daily to move forward in life? Daily updates welcomed.

I worked on my truck this morning. It has been making some loud screeching noises lately...coming from the belt area. So today, I replaced the idler pulley, the tension idler pulley, and the serpentine belt. Now, it's much quieter, so I'll see, in coming weeks, if I found the right source. Stretching the new belt over the pulleys was quite a chore....had to use a piece of pipe to get enough torque to pop it on.
Yup that’s a hard job. My son has done a lot of work on his cars.

Decided to take back a bookcase we bought earlier and he hasn’t put together. It was the same cost as the air conditioner so I haven’t ended up spending extra money. I can alway rebuy the other bookcase later, if needed.

I have been extremely busy moving my stuff around so mr I want everything can have everything he wants. I will be venting about this for forever. Anyway got my big picture hung and it looks great but now I have to move it. And I waited 3 months to hang it, in just the right spot.

But since I lost my study, sigh, and moved my computer into the living room, I now need a bookcase where the picture is for the rest of my stuff that is in the study. With the computer out of my bedroom, I rearranged my bedroom. He didn’t want his recliner in his bedroom.

Alrighty. I was able to rearrange my bedroom so I could put his, now my recliner in my bedroom. I took the lamp from the living room, put it next to the recliner, and my bedside table on the other side. Now I have a great cosy reading spot and watching tv spot in my bedroom. Also moved my dvds in there.

He bought the wrong air conditioner for my bedroom, ugh. But it will go in the living room window. Put it there and have to buy a new air conditioner for my bedroom. He picked up an air conditioner back from our son for his room. Of course. Said our son decided to keep the other air conditioner he was going to give back to us. Whatever.

Just have the dining room left to clean and then I can start cleaning the whole house over again. Lol.

Let’s talk air conditioners. Wow, who knew how hard it could be?

Since we live in a desert, it gets really hot here really fast. Sunday it was supposed to be 90, I think it got to 87. Anyway, we decided we had to buy window air conditioners since we could not afford to put in a system. Especially needed one for my bedroom since the sun hits it on two sides all day long and it gets extremely hot.

Went to the store, picked out the cheapest small window air conditioner cause I need it cool not freezing cold. And I have to be careful of the electrical system in the house. We had an electrician out, replaced all the outlets, and both boxes; but we still need to add some outlets. And he warned us not to overload any single outlet.

Went to Home Depot, found an air conditioner for 148, 😀, and went to buy it. It rung up for 220 🙁. No, I tell the checker, it’s 148, it’s right over there, he’ll show you. She shuts down her station, walks over to where we got the air conditioner, and sees that, yes, it is sitting where the tag says 148. She goes back to her check stand, calls a manager who comes right away.

The manager goes and checks, yup, says 148. Looks at us two old folks, says I got you, and sells us the air conditioner for 148. YAY. Plus we get our veterans discount of 10%. Take it home, he’s got to mess around for a couple of hours. I remind him I want it put in for tonight, so he takes it out of the box, goes to put it in the window, and it doesn’t fit. Sigh.

Except for two small windows, in the living room, our windows are casement windows. Standard windows slide up and down, casement windows slide side to side. Who knew A standard window air conditioner would not work. Not us. I never even occurred to us.

So I tell husband to go to son‘s house and get back the floor air conditioner that we gave him so he can put it into my bedroom for the night so I can sleep. And the other small air conditioner. He says on the way he will stop and return the air conditioner we just bought. Nope. It will go in the living room. Just go. It’s HOT.

Continued next paragraph.

He goes to our sons‘ house and comes back with the floor air conditioner. Where’s the second one, I ask. He wanted to keep it, he says. Hmm, whatever. It’s a very old one anyway. The floor air conditioner is a bit large for my room. It has to go between my bed and the wall which is about 18 inches to two feet. It fills the whole space and blocks access to a small tall dresser I have at the end of my bed.

For those not familiar with floor air conditioners, you plug a large hose into the air conditioner and the other end of the hose plugs into small piece of aluminum which sits in the window, then you slide the window against it.

This will work for tonight. It takes forever for him to accomplish it, but finally it‘s in. I just sit in my chair, in my room, and watch. He doesn’t like me to talk doing these projects, he gets mad if I make comments. I stay quieter than a mouse. I just sit and watch him fumble, drop screws, try and get the parts that click together, to click together, and never make a sound.

Finally, he‘s managed to get the hose to stay in the air conditioner and the other end to stay in the window. It’s ready to go, he says. He turns it on. It works. Not very cold but it should cool the room enough for me to sleep.

My room only has two electrical outlets in it. It would cost 1500.00 to put an electrical outlet in the wall under the window. The electrician has to drill though the outside cinder block wall and then the outlet would stick out from the wall. I can’t afford it anyway. I plug the air conditioner into the new outlet in the hallway.

BUT, 🤣, now husband realizes he is standing between the air conditioner and my small dresser. He is trapped. Unless he removes the air conditioner from where it is. 🤔. I am just sitting there, not a word. He decides to push my bed up against my dresser, which is on the other wall. This gives him the space to get out, then he pushes my bed back. Mission accomplished.

It doesn’t keep the room very cool. It’s too big. Tomorrow we will buy a different one. Tomorrow, morning it occurs to me that the reason it didn’t cool the room very well was because he didn’t clean the filter. I mention this to him later.

Anyway, between the air conditioner and my fan, I manage to get some sleep. Since I have a few heart conditions, I can’t tolerate the heat.

Now to deal with the new air conditioner and buying a different one for my room.

Not doing much except keeping it clean and neat.

my house went on the market the day ay before the shelter in place started.

It was cancelled because I didn’t want people in and out touching things etc.

There has been nobody in my house except me since this all began.

It will eventually go back on the market when I feel comfortable...maybe phase 3 in Fresno. when it sells I’ll move in with daughter until they find house with separate granny suite.

There was a perfect one last year but they took it off market.

I just noticed HULU is free for a week.

My total house cleaning may be delayed as I need to watch the third season of the Handmaidens tale, it’s all about putting the most important things first. 😀. All my plants survived the replanting, but my shoulder is very painful this morning. The surgeon still has not called me back.

I had hoped it would rain last night, but the storm blew the clouds away. I have flowers in the front I want to dig up and move but the ground is too hard. The neighbor’s chickens have started clucking so they are still alive. Took the trash out. Had cream of wheat for breakfast.

My mother used to make it for us when we were very small. It always had lumps as she did not stir it. I love cream of wheat with butter, sugar, cream, sigh, I only put a sugar substitute in it.

Such an exciting morning, what will I do this afternoon? Maybe vacuum, got to watch HULU now, lol.

I have Hulu and love it. I had the one with ads at first but when covid hit I upgraded to ad free.

I also have to finish watching Handmaids Tale.

I’m just finishing “This is Us”

I am thinking about adding Hulu. I took Netflix off, I try it every now and then but find I don’t watch it much. I think prime is better than Netflix because I tend to watch it more.

Love "This is Us". Last night, I watched a very unusual film by the wife of the singer, the late Lou Reed .. Laurie Anderson, called "Heart Of A Dog". I get free films through Kanopy via the library.

I have Netflix, Prime and Hulu but I cancelled my direct TV. I think all of these still cost less than my Direct TV was costing.
But you still have to buy WiFi, correct? We pay a horrible amount for Comcast but with WiFi only, it still is close to what we pay with the tv services.

I do the normal things I always did like, cleaning, cooking and laundry. Sadly it's so much harder to do now with all my medical issues and age. Now as for my husband he never stops. Right now he is obsessed with the lawn and storage shed.We had a lawn service but he let them go because he feels he can do it just as well as they can. He has medical conditions also and has difficulty walking but it doesn't stop him. I try to stop him but nothing works. He can't seem to accept his age while I have no choice but to accept my ageing.

My husband has always been a sit on his butt guy unless I nag, nag, and nag. Then he gets mad that I nag. He’s been better about certain things in this house, I only have to nag a little bit. Ugh. I keep telling him I’m not his mother, his secretary, or maid. I wish I had to tell him to sit down and rest, that would be nice.

But I am where you are. There is so little I can do now, so I have to have him do more. Housework, as I’ve said, takes me all week to do what I used to do in a day, and this house is dusty all the time.
