Yeah, pun intended.
A few years back, I posted about how a chance encounter with 100% polyester sheets changed my life: A complete end to waking up sweaty, with sweat-soaked sheets. I then bought 100% poly underwear, and couldn't believe how dry I stayed in the trees, even in 100°F weather.
Well, like all things in life, things change, over time. The same process that made me give up my super expensive, 100% Merino wool underwear, has now come to pass in my poly stuff.
To wit: Repetitive washing and drying has shrunk the pores in the material that allowed such amazing evaporation. I've confirmed this with microscopic studies, in my tree and soil lab.
Now, I'm ordering up on new polyester wear. Not crazy about the expenditure, but I've got to do it.
What bothers me is that now, if I want my new stuff to last longer than two years, I'll need to go to cold water washes, and drying on a collapsible rack.
Two years might seem like more than enough wear, but I've got a dress shirt, from forty-one years ago, that I still wear, occasionally.
(Sigh).... A man's work is never done!
