My love affair with 100% polyester shirts hits a snag!

Yeah, pun intended.

A few years back, I posted about how a chance encounter with 100% polyester sheets changed my life: A complete end to waking up sweaty, with sweat-soaked sheets. I then bought 100% poly underwear, and couldn't believe how dry I stayed in the trees, even in 100°F weather.

Well, like all things in life, things change, over time. The same process that made me give up my super expensive, 100% Merino wool underwear, has now come to pass in my poly stuff.

To wit: Repetitive washing and drying has shrunk the pores in the material that allowed such amazing evaporation. I've confirmed this with microscopic studies, in my tree and soil lab.

Now, I'm ordering up on new polyester wear. Not crazy about the expenditure, but I've got to do it.

What bothers me is that now, if I want my new stuff to last longer than two years, I'll need to go to cold water washes, and drying on a collapsible rack.

Two years might seem like more than enough wear, but I've got a dress shirt, from forty-one years ago, that I still wear, occasionally.

(Sigh).... A man's work is never done! 😇

Yeah, I'm tired of waking up stuck to the bed. Your mission, treeguy64 should you choose to accept it, is to become the Official Senior Forum Least Sticky Sheet Rater. Feel free to consult with NASA, the CIA ,or your mom, in your quest to find the last sticky sheet.

I personally think boxer shorts are much sexier on a man than briefs.
Also,I personally like cotton much more than synthetic fabrics.
And Carol: Duluth Trading has awesome men's products. and,, , awesome commercials!

Consult my Mom? You supplying the Ouija board?

Also, if you think getting a good night's sleep, by keeping sweat free, is some hilarious, laughing matter, then you've obviously never had a problem with it.

As mentioned, 100% polyester sheets have been keeping me cool and dry for a few years, now. I know, however, that the constant washing and drying will, most likely, close their pores, as well, and necessitate my buying replacements, for them, the way I'm replacing my underwear, now.

Dave likes Duluth Trading Buck Naked boxers. I got him a pair at Christmas just to push my order past the free shipping amount, and he loves them. They are expensive, however, about $22 each! There's a Duluth Trading in the Premium Outlets in Round Rock. Just FYI.
Thanks! I may check them out. My 100% Merino wool underwear went for about $50 per piece.

Treeguy, Duluth also has Armachillo boxers, which claim to be cool. No experience with those. They have great stuff at that store, and they're real proud of it, if you know what I mean, but Dave loves their flannel shirts and their cargo pants. Well made and rugged.

Everybody has their own preference for sheets. We bought a very expensive set of bamboo sheets a few years ago. They are wonderfully smooth and silky and cool, BUT they are so slick that I practically have to remake the bed every morning from scratch. Dave likes cotton jersey sheets, and I found that if I don't get 100% cotton, they pill something awful. So I found some on Land's End, and they are great but I waited to buy a set until they had a pre-Christmas 40% off one item sale.

My husband loves the Armachillo boxers, as well as the cotton kind from Duluth. Catch them on sale. Your comfort is worth it.

If you're using satin polyester sheets and wearing polyester undies, how do you keep from sliding out of bed all night long?

I had some truly awful encounters with polyester back in the 70's. Double knit! The horror, the horror.
Things have changed, greatly, with 100% polyester. I couldn't stand wearing it, in the 70's. It was hot, scratchy, and made me a bit "odoriferous." I never thought I'd ever come to really like it, some forty-five years later. It's made differently, now, different fiber composition, different "weaves."

Tree Guy: Most people can't tolerate 100% wool ANYTHING next to their skin. and you wear 100 % WOOL UNDERWARE? Wow! You must be tough!
100% Merino wool is not the scratchy stuff you have in mind. It's very soft, not itchy, at all. I would've stayed with it, but It's very labor intensive when it comes to washing it, gently, and then rack drying. Like 100% polyester, its pores close, over time, wiping out its amazing breathability.

Did not know that! Thanks for explaining it!
