Why Post A Response If You Can't Help?

When people post questions about an issue why do people post "I can't help." or "I don't know." I guess it is to be polite but when the OP is scrolling through the responses they have to be aggravated at a list "no help" posts.
I can't help! (Sorry, but you should have expected this!)

Okay, seriously, it may be to show that they care about the original poster's issue but don't have a solution - or they just like to see their user name in print.

Also frustrating, are the people who get into a thread that they have absolutely no interest in, or knowledge about, just to say that they are not interested in that.
You know, if the thread is about football, and you don’t have any interest in football, why not ignore that thread, as opposed to just replying that you do not like football ?

What I find annoying is some posters will take the original thread and go'off topic'
I'm sure the OP wonders what happened to their original post why did they bother

Doing so acknowledges that you read their post, but don’t have an answer. Otherwise it seems like you have been ignored. This is a conversation between people, if you were in person and asked a question you would say IDK, you wouldn’t turn your back

I don’t mind off topic conversations. Hmm, were you talking about me? 🤪😂

Well wait a minute. Since you post a question to everyone, it's only being polite to answer isn't it?

No, posts don't morph. People go off topic especially when they want to talk about themselves, their poor health, etc. :(

I agree with Camper though. It would be weird if there were no replies at all, since no one could offer help.
Guilty as charged 🤣.
