It's the heart of the matter. Loving others.

Sometimes people are so rude to you and you wonder why? But it's because we don't understand what they might be going through. They might be having physical, mental or emotional problems and they are just unstressing. it's directed to you but not really meant for you. We have to be kind even when we don't understand. Nothing can happen to us that is not a reflection of our own level of consciousness.

"If you are kind towards everyone to the same degree, does this mean no one is special to you?".:).
I can only speak for myself and I'm far from perfect, but in my life, I've seen "special" people to me consider kindness as a sign of weakness. It reminds me of a line in the song Alfie..."if only fools are kind Alfie, then I guess it is wise to be cruel".

Acts of kindness varies from a simple gesture of smiling to offering a shoulder to cry on, to regularly checking on a person you know who's depressed/sick/hurting, etc.

This thread made me realize I will keep checking on strangers I read that are lonely/depressed. It may be a small gesture but it means the world to them that someone cares enough. Note to self~ just do it. I like to "resurrect" old posts and I stumbled on a thread of one who's no longer active here but she started a conversation with me and I sensed her longing for friendship. I hope she comes back to talk to me again.
