A county in Washington state has run out of hospital beds because of a recent spike in coronavirus cases — and now, Washington Governor Jay Inslee says the entire state is going to take a more aggressive approach to handling the pandemic. Everyone in the state, minus a few exceptions, will now have to wear a face mask, and will be charged with a misdemeanor crime if they fail to do so.

It is unbelievable, how this country has mishandled this pandemic. I read something yesterday about how the U.S. has about 5% of the world's population, but 25% of Covid-19 cases, and 25% of deaths from it. I am not surprised about the hospital beds; we seem to have mishandled everything else about this. We started by denying the whole thing, and just trying to ignore it for a couple of months, when we could have been preparing with medical supplies, tests, hospital beds, etc., not to mention getting an earlier start on working on a vaccine.

The numbers are climbing in the past couple of weeks...probably due to all those people who are gathering in large groups without following the social distancing and mask guidelines. Most of the increases seem to be in the younger people who are at the bars and beaches, etc. Many of these young may find themselves saddled with lifelong illnesses/disabilities as a result of their ignoring these rules.

No matter what the outcome is, our nation will feel the effects of this virus for many years to come.

The main stream media seems eager to blame beach goers but loathe to blame protesters for any spread of the virus. Some state governors want to allow autonomous zones, but keep the churches closed. The political pandering is mind boggling.

Numbers may be climbing, but, the mortality rate isn't near what earlier predictions made it out to be. I think once all the hysteria has died down and the media finds a new boogeyman to scare us with, and all the facts come out, we'll find this virus is no more deadly than any other virus we suffer from.
From the CDC,

That may be true, but it's starting to look like for some people, their "recovery" is worse than just dying from the virus! So far the reports are more anecdotal than scientific, though more and more scientists and researchers and doctors are weighing in on the long term, permanent effects of the virus on some people, and not just older folks as was originally posited.

And if that anecdotal information is proven to be as accurate as it looks like it is, then even if this virus is no more deadly than any other, its ultimate outcome is far, far worse.

i don't understand why they didn't make the masks mandatory from the get go instead of waiting. how many frickin people have to die before they decide it's important enough? i'm sorry but i think our government is stupid.
