If you get fresh broccoli from a farm or farmstand or farmers market, or from your own garden, for that matter,
then , before cooking,
in whatever way you prefer to cook,
it's a good routine to pre-soak the whole stalk in some lukewarm or even cool water, in a bowl or tub in sink, WITH added salt whished in....for only about 5 minutes or so, needed.
Then rinse off and proceed, feeling happier, assured that any little critters that had been hidden and munching, would have let go of their feast (and sometimes floated to the top)
for you to discard, instead of having in your dinner plates.
I would steam or roast, but boiled is fine with me, if someone else offers to cook it!
It's great raw, of course, for those who can chew and digest it. Might want to scrape some of the toughest areas of skin off of it, if sensitive stomachs are common at your home.
