Broccoli question.

This this recipe is for a "salty" old sailor...lol. I'd just add 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the water when boiling it.

Personally, I like to "steam" veggies, as you lose a lot of the nutrition when boiling in water, unless you drink the water you cooked the vegetables in of course. Try shaking some lemon/pepper seasoning over them, also.

I use sea salt but I never put it in vegetables for cooking. Once the veg are cooked I add a little to taste if I feel I need to. I've found that once you get use to not having it it is not a problem. It's like sugar which I had in tea many many years ago, now I could not drink tea with sugar in. :sick:

If you get fresh broccoli from a farm or farmstand or farmers market, or from your own garden, for that matter,

then , before cooking,
in whatever way you prefer to cook,

it's a good routine to pre-soak the whole stalk in some lukewarm or even cool water, in a bowl or tub in sink, WITH added salt whished in....for only about 5 minutes or so, needed.

Then rinse off and proceed, feeling happier, assured that any little critters that had been hidden and munching, would have let go of their feast (and sometimes floated to the top)
for you to discard, instead of having in your dinner plates.

I would steam or roast, but boiled is fine with me, if someone else offers to cook it!

It's great raw, of course, for those who can chew and digest it. Might want to scrape some of the toughest areas of skin off of it, if sensitive stomachs are common at your home.

I take it, you don't care for broccoli, FuzzyB? :unsure::ROFLMAO:

Would you prefer brussels sprouts, then?
:sneaky::ROFLMAO:

No, I didnt think so. :giggle: They are even less popular, but some of us like them both. (y)
:)

But that's how I increase my protein intake.

Alright then, totally fine with me....If that protein makes you happy and healthy, go for it! (y):LOL::love:
