I got a letter in the mail today from my doctor of over 10 years to inform patients she is retiring at the end of next month. I liked her because her sub-speciality was working with seniors. Took me a while to find her. I guess another new doc in her practice is taking over her patients. I am lucky I have an appointment next week, so I will see her once more. I hope I like the new guy.

This past year I have had 2 of my dr's retire!!

Sorry to hear that Marie. I never had a regular doctor, don't go to doctors very much at all. But, I had a very good vet for around thirty years who cared for my pets, and I was very disappointed when he finally retired, I miss him very much and I trusted him.

I didn't see doctors up until 5 or 6 years ago.

When some things came up, my first choice re-married and moved away within the year.

My second doctor was so wonderful and kind, I just adored him. The practice he worked for sold out to a bigger, hospital based monster and he just went the way of a hospitalist until he retired.

On my final visit (not knowing he was leaving), we left the exam room and when out in the hall, he gave me a big hug; a huge hug and I blurted out.. "oh I love you". The nurses, me and the doctor all had a good laugh, but I did kind of had a crush.

Now I'm with a very cool young PA I like very much. I told her about my semi-crush on Dr. Miller.
she said, "You're not the only one"!

So Marie, you may end up with someone you like even more.

I know what you mean. My ophthalmologist retired last year and his practice was bought out and I'm not happy with the new business. They demand the co-pay upfront, double bill for deductibles, and the new doctor is arrogant and unhelpful. When I was there in February I told him the vision in my left eye was getting very blurry. He just gave me eyedrops and examined me for a new vision prescription. When I took the new prescription to WalMart to get filled, the optician there said he didn't understand how it was written. I feel like getting a new eye doctor. He's got one more chance to do right by me wen his office re-opens.

A totally different story but yours brought back some memories of the doctor I had back home. He was the best doctor to me and many other patients. He helped me out tremendously when I after 19 years of working at the local hospital resigned due to being burnt out. Dr. Lutton not once charged me for the visits. I'd tell him that the front office people would give me ugly looks because I never paid (for a year) until I found another job. He wanted me to take a year off as that is how burnt out I was. I will never forget him and his kindness. Oh, he would tell me to tell the girls at the desk that I was his FRIEND. I never did, of course. I wish I could see him once more to thank him for all he did for me.

You were blessed to have him!

My last general practitioner retired without telling anyone in 2012. I’d had him for 12 years and I cried for a few days when I found out he left with a word. Apparently I was one of the few people he left an 8 month prescription with . ( at that time I was on meds ) Everyone else he left hanging.
He wasn’t necessarily a great doctor but he never ever rushed me and always listened to everything I had to say. Usually my visits were 20 to 30 minutes each. He was a good listener which is rare.

I have to find a new doctor also. Not for any of the reasons mentioned. My doctor is going to end up in jail. It seems he let another doctor who isn't licensed work in his practice and also medicare fraud is involved .
I don't know all the circumstances but his license was suspended and he is awaiting sentencing.
I have mixed feelings about this because he saved my life. I was on deaths door step with celiac disease. I had gone from doctor to doctor for 7 years before he took the time and effort to diagnose the problem.
My hubby goes to his son who took over the practice and likes him. I may do the same.
Marie, I hope you find a good doctor.

I was heartbroken when my Primary Doctor retired in March. I had been going to him for 30yrs. All I can say was he was wonderful. He listened and helped me through all hard times. I got a new Doctor near where I live now. After 2 months he left his practice. I wasn't crazy about him but when he sent me my info he told me I should get checked for kidney failure. He added that I would probably need dialysis or a kidney transplant. I saw a kidney Doctor and last week had a pelvis and kidney ultra sound. Thankfully everything was ok. I see a new Primary Doctor next week. I hope the new Primary care Doctor is as good as the one I had for 30yrs.

I certainly was blessed @RadishRose We were able to pay him but he refused to take our money. The first years after I moved away and go back home... I'd visit his office, particularly to see him and his nurse. One time I went home for a wedding and saw this person jumping a rose bush at the wedding reception location. Alas, it was Dr. Lutton running towards me and giving me a big bear hug.

I just found today that my PCP is retiring on May 1. She's been my doctor for over 10 years since 2012. Though I didn't go to appointments to see her that much over the years. She helped me to deal with my diabetes and continuous test on my A1c levels and BMP levels and my glocouse readings and follow up appointments with her. She's done a fabulous job helping me with my diabetes and everything else. I'm crying now cuz over the years she been there. Her retirement is hitting me so hard now and I see her on February 10th to get my A1c levels and my BMP tests done. She knows what she's doing to help me with my diabetes and putting me on the right meds.

I'm in the process right now of finding my second new doctor since August. The first one retired and I had a hard time finding anyone who was accepting new Medicare patients. I wasn't altogether pleased with this new one and then I got a letter a couple of days ago saying she was leaving. I'm royally pissed that I have to start the process again.

Be glad for their retirement, a chiropractor I dealt with quit as she had cancer and died from it.

How can it be? A smart intelligent person. Goes to school and learns to be a healer and dies before 50

Some old fat guy high school dropout ne'er do well sits on his ass now and collects retirement.
