This I believe was written for the UK, but it applies to
most Western Countries.

At first I thought this was funny....Then I realized the awful truth of it.
Be sure to read all the way to the end!

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts
Anyway!
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
It's time to apply
The inheritance tax.

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middle class,a huge manufacturing base
and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the Hell happened? Could it be the lying parasitic politicians wasting our money?
Oh, and don't forget the relatively new bank charges....
And we all know what we think of Bankers.

Good one Pappy..

As for tax... sadly it's necessary. We all benefit from paying taxes. We drive on the roads.. we want our children.. and ALL children educated.... we need a police and fire department... we need an Army and Navy.... we enjoy national parks and attractions.... We benefit from medical research.... we like that the FDA protects our food supply... and the EPA regulates companies from destroying the environment. What would life be like with NO taxes?

yes, Taxes are a necessary evil, but a fair tax with no exemptions or deductions. Either a certain percentage of all income or a sales tax that taxes by consumption instead of earnings (we all know people who get paid "under the table" or of people that get their income more illegally.)

In the main street of my local town is a full size bronze statue of a cow commemorating an incident that happened 100 years ago.

Under the Liberal government of the 1910s, the Chancellor of the Exchequer David Lloyd George introduced a scheme whereby National Insurance contributions (by employer) became compulsory for all workers between the ages of 16 and 70. This was enacted via the National Insurance Act, and caused outrage among the farmers local to Turriff, who claimed that their contributions were too high; and that, as they were rarely able to be off work due to illness like industrial workers, it was unfair for them to have to pay for a service they were unlikely to use.

In Turriff, popular protests were held in the Johnston and Paterson Mart, and Lendrum farmer Robert Paterson refused to stamp the insurance cards of his employees. Paterson was charged under the National Insurance Act and sentenced to pay a fine of £15 plus the arrears of national insurance contributions. Paterson paid the fine, but refused to make up the arrears, resulting in orders on 13 November 1913 for Turriff's sheriff George Keith to seize property to the value of £7 from Paterson's farm. However, this was more difficult than it seemed as officers could not move property without local assistance, and the locals refused to help in protest.
The Cow

The Turra Coo statue in Turriff

Sheriff's Officer George Keith poinded the only piece of property which was easily mobile: Paterson's white milk cow, which was set to be sold in Turriff on 9 December, the delay being due to the fact that both of Turriff's agricultural marts supported Paterson and refused to handle the sale, requiring a special licence to be granted for a public sale and an auctioneer to be brought in from elsewhere. On the appointed day, the cow was taken from Paterson's farm and led to Turriff on foot. The citizens of Turriff found the cow tied in the village square, decorated in ribbons and painted with the words 'Lendrum to Leeks' in reference to Lloyd George's Welsh origin, and representing the sheriff's and government's victory over the hostile farmers. The cow was put up for auction. The response was a near riot, and a 100-strong mob proceeded to pelt the sheriff's officers with rotten fruit and soot. Amidst the melee, the cow herself escaped from her handler and ran away, later being found in a nearby barn. Eight farm workers, including Paterson, were subsequently put on trial in Aberdeen for disorderly conduct but all were acquitted, having received verdicts of "not proven".

** Not Proven is a verdict unique to Scottish law. It effectively means that there is a suspicion of guilt, but not sufficient evidence for proof.

The cow was eventually taken to Aberdeen where it was sold to a farmer, Alexander Craig, for £7 (which, balanced against the cost of the operation, resulted in a loss to the Sherriff's Department), but Bryony Miller, a local girl and wife of the Patersons' farmhand John Miller, with his help, rallied the local community together to buy back the cow for Lendrum. The presentation of the cow back to the Patersons on 20 January 1914 was a major public event; it was estimated that more than 3,000 people turned out to see the cow paraded in triumph through Turriff, adorned with ribbons and garlands of dried flowers, painted with the slogan "Free!! Divn't ye wish that ye were me" and accompanied by a band playing "See the Conquering Hero Comes". The cow returned to the Patersons' farm at Lendrum, where she died six years later and was buried in a corner of the farmland.

The cow is still very much a part of local history and stands as an act of defiance to what was seen as an unfair tax levied by the Westminster government.

The flat tax is regressive... unfair... and favors the Wealthy.. they would love nothing more.. A progressive, graduated income tax with no loopholes is the way to go.

What QuickSilver said. Taxes are necessary to provide public goods.

Among these goods are public education and public libraries. Imagine a modern society where only those wealthy enough could afford to send their children to school and provide them with books. It would be quick slide down to a third world economy.

Same principle applies to all the other public goods we take for granted.

Everyone and every corporation ought to be proud to make their fair contribution for the good of all.

This is very true, if the Government were to realise it.

In England they are closing public libraries! The schools are getting too full
because no new ones are being built and the minimum a student has to pay
to go to a University is £9,000.

Our taxes are being misused here I think. The only sure way that they are
being spent is by giving all MPs a 10% salary increase and sending the few
troops that are left to fight wars in foreign lands.

No... I think England has mistakenly followed the Austerity theory of Government... This has killed jobs.. With less people working... less taxes paid and with less taxes in the coffers..... less money for Libraries, schools, infrastructure... etc. It's not a matter of mispending the money.. It's a matter of not having it. Austerity never works... because as much as folks want to compare Government budgets to household budgets... there is no comparison.

In the U.S., high taxes and over regulation have sent businesses out of the country where neither the businesses or their employees pay any taxes. The former employees in the states are now drawing unemployment benefits, food stamps, and such, therefore taking money from the government instead of paying taxes. A double whammy on the governments finances.

Those without jobs also are not paying into social security or 401ks, therefore will have less income when they reach retirement age.

Taxes are necessary, but too much or the wrong kind can ( and has ) ruined the entire economy.

....I'd say that the GREED of businesses have sent them out of the country.

and the lure of cheap almost slave labor.. Why pay Americans a living wage when you can hire thousands of people to work for pennies a day? We may have a high tax rate, but very few if any major Corporation pays that rate, but takes advantage of unfair loopholes bought and paid for by lobbyists and special interest groups. I do agree that regulations are a part of it. They don't want ANY environmental or public health regulations or restrictions placed on them that will affect the bottom line.. The third world countries fit the bill in that regard. SO.. do we in America do away with these to make Corporations happy... or do we want our clean air and water.. and safe products and working conditions? Want to go back to child labor and a time where there were no labor laws? Corporations would like nothing better!!

There is certainly greed involved but there is also competition. You just can't sell a product for a dollar when your competitors sell the same thing for a dime. I think the greed is mostly from the big stores like walmart that buy products from anywhere they can get the lowest price.

I think that the solution is... if an American company wants to manufacture a product overseas.. they should pay a price to SELL it in the USA. This could be done as a form of tarriff. If they choose to manufacture the product in the USA... they should receive tax incentives. Do you really believe that a company would forego the very lucrative American market?
