First off, harassment and bullying isn't limited to children based on the lifestyle of their parents. The kids that took a girl into the woods and tried to knife her to death, their parents weren't gay, we can find all kinds of reasons to justify our uncomfortable feelings about others ways of existing along side us. But teaching others to be more responsible for their own misguided actions is more challenging and seems less important to those that just want things to go with how their limited way of thinking can see things.
We have young people taking their lives due to the fact they know they will be hated because they were born feeling different from what society tells them they should feel and no matter how hard they try to bury their true selves, it just can't be done, so they grow up hating themselves all so they can fit into a mold to accommodate the feelings of the ignorant and prejudiced that decide what normal should be for others. People to this day go on and on about how awful life would be for children of mixed race parents, well, it is if they and the people around them aren't taught to be respectful of self and those around them. Over the years I've had several very close friends whom parents were of varying parental mixtures, none have any issues to this date. My best friend of over 25 years, her parents are from different ethnic groups, one of the families did disown, but, she and her sisters have grown up in a community that fully accepted them and in the quarter century that I've known them and their offspring, I've seen nothing but continued successful generations of children come about. But people for years people always said and still say, such unions are detrimental to the future of the children's well being. Really that is mostly true and case studies will be found by those that want to keep things comfortable for their way of seeing the world.
Things are changing whether people like it or not, I for one am happy that the younger generations are able to see through some of the nonsense they've been fed to believe; it's no wonder they have so little respect for what some of, not all, not most, the older people have to say in general.
