Am I the only one that would like a senior forum such as this with

cam video capability. ? --because of the situation we are all in seems to me to provide an enchanced socialization opportunity for us...-

-covid ...no exposure--no covid.....

so this could be helpful seems to me??

You might want to organize a Zoom meeting for those who'd like to meet that way. Since the forum is public you might consider asking people to start a conversation with you if they're interested and then you can give them the meeting details there.

I'm not much of a video meeting person, so I wouldn't be a participant, but others might want to be.

I'd be fine with it. I zoom or video chat all the time. Apart from family and friends, I do various other appointments that way, doctors and such.

We've also interacted with folks who are selling something but we want to see it before we buy it. We bought a dining room table that way...saw it virtually, had the guy walk all around it, show us the various angles, sit in the chair etc., get up close to some areas that looked scratched. Once we worked out the details, I venmoed in him money and he put the table outside for us to pick up.

It's just become a way of life for us.

For a lot of people like yourselves, it's a total positive, for connections, to family, friends, and other uses that you have described.

I use facetime with my family. That's all. I remember when I first heard of "video chat" (circa 1980?).

Here's my cautionary tale:LOL::oops:...I had a new Dell computer in the 80's and just learning. I was curious so I went to a social site with a "video cam". I didn't join or sign up. I just thought I was observing conversations incognito.

Apparently I was sitting higher than my Dell computer screen (do they still sell Dells?...no laptops back then with tilting screens) because someone said "Nice nightgown". They could only see my upper torso, no head. I waited for someone else to respond as I thought they were chatting amongst themselves...but no one did. Another comment was made about it and then I realized it was me they were talking about.

I freaked out and shut off the computer. Never again did I ever try video chat nor do I have any desire. It's just too personal in a room of strangers. Yes, we get to know a few members well and make some friends we trust here in SF but new strangers always come...and in a video chat room any new stranger can view you and your surroundings. That's a little creepy don't you think? Maybe it's different now than in the 80's and maybe everyone is somehow screened....but I doubt it.
