This makes no sense. 😩

Updated CDC guidelines now say people exposed to coronavirus may not need to be tested.

In a shift that perplexed some doctors, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has changed its Covid-19 testing guidelines to say some people without symptoms may not need to be tested, even if they've been in close contact with someone known to have the virus.

Previously, the CDC said viral testing was appropriate for people with recent or suspected exposure, even if they were asymptomatic.

Dr. Leana Wen, an emergency physician and public health professor at George Washington University who was previously Baltimore's health commissioner, said on CNN's New Day on Wednesday that the testing guideline changes make no sense.

"These are exactly the people who should be tested," Wen said, giving the example of a person exposed at work who wants a test so they can protect their family at home.

The test is so unreliable, it is useless. And, even if it was reliable, a positive test without symptoms means nothing. Exposure does not automatically equal illness or ability to transmit a virus. Similarly, a positive Tuberculosis skin test means exposure, not illness or ability to transmit.
And the test does not indicate Coronavirus; it only indicates a virus. Coronavirus is a group of viruses that cause many illnesses, including the common cold - which means most people would test positive.

I don't know what CNN is talking about. The CDC website says Not everyone needs to be tested.
It doesn't say that those exposed don't need to be tested. In fact, it says that if you are exposed you should be tested.

I believe you are mistaken.

I believe what you posted, is the old suggestions, not the new ones. They are now saying if you have been exposed for 15 mins or more with in 6 ft of person with covid, but have no symptoms, you do not need to be tested.

I don't know where you get the information you just posted. My doctors aunt, died of covid, passed to her from an asymptomatic family member.

Becky, you are correct that is what it says.
Our CDC, has lost it's independence and become a political agency, not health oriented agency anymore. It can no longer be trusted.

With 40% of positive coronavirus patients, able to spread the disease, but having no symptoms, they are no longer suggesting testing of people exposed but without symptoms. So, I guess, no more contract tracing either, it will completely be a waste of time.

The CDC is now completely under the administrations control and no longer an independent agency devoted to health, they are now devoted to politics, and can no longer be trusted. It is a sad day that this has happened and lives will be lost.

My doctor lost her great aunt, as a result of a family member that had it with no symptoms and gave it to the older woman.

So, if this applies to schools, ..... a sick kid in the class will not result in the other kids being tested unless they show symptoms. This is a very dangerous situation. It scares me.

I copied that from their website this morning. Just refreshed my browser and double checked, it remains their published guideline on their website.

Nothing at all like this: They are now saying if you have been exposed for 15 mins or more with in 6 ft of person with covid, but have no symptoms, you do not need to be tested.

Where are you seeing new information?

It is reported on CNN, check out the link below. The suggest that they did it quietly. Perhaps they have not had time to change the website.

CDC changes coronavirus testing guidance; asymptomatic people no longer require test

Before forming an opinion on a CNN or FOX news report stating what's on a CDC website, I'll wait to see it and read it for myself. As of now, the CDC website guidelines do not state what these reports suggest.

If you have been in close contact (within 6 feet) of a person with a COVID-19 infection for at least 15 minutes but do not have symptoms:

You do not necessarily need a test unless you are a vulnerable individual or your health care provider or State or local public health officials recommend you take one.

A negative test does not mean you will not develop an infection from the close contact or contract an infection at a later time.

You should monitor yourself for symptoms. If you develop symptoms, you should evaluate yourself under the considerations set forth above.

If you are in a high COVID-19 transmission area and have attended a public or private gathering of more than 10 people (without widespread mask wearing or physical distancing):

You do not necessarily need a test unless you are a vulnerable individual or your health care provider or State or local public health officials recommend you take one.

A negative test does not mean you will not develop an infection from the gathering or contract an infection at a later time.

@Becky1951, I looked at this and was quite surprised to see that this was on the CDC page titled, "Health Care Workers"(!!) Not the general public (that's the page I keep seeing and hasn't been changed as of this moment).

Thank you for doing that research. Now I understand why I wasn't finding the information.

p.s. I think this is foolhardy advice. How outrageous that the guideline changing discussions, deliberations and decisions occurred while Dr. Fauci was under anesthetic. Who do you suppose might have been behind this bizarre decision? I wonder...

California, meanwhile, will not abide by new guidelines, Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a news conference.
"I don't agree with the new CDC guidance period, full stop, and it's not the policy in the state of California," Newsom, a Democrat, said. "We will not be influenced by that change. We're influenced by those that are experts in the field that feel very differently."

Glad to live in a state that follows the science.

They only test here if there's symptoms. If a person is exposed to it they won't test here unless they start displaying symptoms. However, if you go to the hospital nurse with diarrhea and a runny nose she will send you for a test. What confuses me is the fact that some places only swab one nostril and others swab both. Not sure why.

Well hidden wasn't it, gee I wonder why? (sarcasm) 😂
I'll take a shot at answering your question of who. Just go up the ladder to the top! 😡

I hope Dr. Fauci is not seriously ill. That poor exhausted man looks like he is summoning up his last ounce of strength to fight not only the virus, but the people who have turned a horrible disease into a political matter, and are resisting his efforts all the way. I'm sure whatever is wrong with him has been made worse by that. And a Forbes article says he has received death threats, and his daughters have been harassed.

We need his decency and his common sense approach. I hope he's OK.
