Collections........starting one.

I used to collect old magazines from the turn of the last century. I sometimes miss them but not greatly.

Sea shells formed another small collection. Got rid of them long ago.

Otherwise, I've never had the desire to amass more of the same thing.

I had a lot of books but they were for reading enjoyment and had no value to me as things in themselves.

I agree with those who say don't do it!

I have several small collections and they have become a burden.

I enjoyed looking for various items, studying them, etc... but owning them and protecting them is a complete waste of time and energy.

I think that the younger minimalist folks have the right idea of collecting relationships, experiences, memories, instead of stuff.

Don, I don't think most people collect things expecting to get rich off them. It's usually done out of love or fascination with the item, or maybe even as a joke.

Back in my "Northern Exposure" fan days, I was part of an online group of fans of the show, who called ourselves the Mooseketeers. (The show always opened with a video of a bewildered looking moose wandering around the town at night).

Somehow, I started collecting moose paraphenalia. One of my grandkids counted the number of moose-related items in my house; it was about 25. I still have a lot of them. IMG_4559[1].JPG

Collecting anything, in these trying times, is almost a waste of time and money. Antique items are worth little more than "dust collectors". About the Only thing that might be worth collecting is Gold and Silver....so that when the dollar collapses, due to government mismanagement, these precious metals will soar in value.

Its not a waste of time and money if you enjoy your collections. If they bring you some sense of enjoyment? Not everything is about money.

Hmmm.....you're breaking my heart Bea, referring to treasure as 'stuff'!!
'Stuff',
our resident Minx calls it, well I won't let her near my tweezer collection. 😊

I'd go back in time, stop myself from getting rid of my vinyl collection, start buying vinyl when everyone else was getting rid of theirs and have a wonderful vinyl collection now. Then again I don't really listen to a lot of stuff I used to listen to so maybe that wouldn't be the best thing to do.

I would also go back in time and stop myself from sending 12 books by Harlan Ellison to a coworker back east. I've been able t replace a lot of them but not all of them. My Harlan Ellison books and my current CD collection are the only collections I have these days.

a new collection? gold nuggets and Morgan silver dollars hahaha!

I have collections i will keep but collections seem to "bind me or hold me down". THINGS arn't important to me anymore. Do you know what i mean?
Well dear lady, there are THINGS and then there are THINGS, but some THINGS are more collectible than other THINGS, perhaps your THINGS are not as nice as my THINGS, so, if you don't want your THINGS, as THINGS stand, I've got room in my shed where I could store your THINGS alongside of my THINGS......get out of that .....😊

Yes! I’ll pass on the collecting things.
STUFF does bogg us down. Absolutely.
Having too much stuff at a certain age becomes more of a prison than anything. At the moment I’m tackling an entire bedroom full of stuff. It became our junk room and place to store stuff to go to the garbage dump ( non perishable of course ) stuff to take to charity along with stuff we didn’t know what to do with which all got moved there during the pandemic and due to painting. We just kept closing the door and avoiding the mess. Now that everything is open again I’m doing a major decluttering.

Stuff has to go. My life and how I live my last years I want completely different from how I lived it before. I didn’t realize how much of my parents influence I have in me until the last couple of years. My ultimate dream is to be a minimalist and give most of this stuff to those who could really use it or even NEED it. Clearly we don’t or it wouldn’t be stashed away.
I call it our hoarders room.

I’ve got a fabric collection, a bead collection and book collection. All of which I don’t need or want.

Very few collections gain financial value. I listened to a salesman promote something by saying it would be worth so much more in years to come. I see this item online & it doesn’t sell, let alone go up in value.

I don’t want to dust clutter, so no collections, unless you count shoes & purses. Even that, I’ve basically quit. When it comes time for me or my kids to clear out my house, I prefer to avoid the issue.
