What is this world coming to?!

First this mother killed 5 of her children, the 6th survived because he was at his grandmother's. The mother then jumped in front of a train but survived. https://www.malaymail.com/news/worl...-children-in-german-town-reports-bild/1899961

Father kills his wife, children then commits suicide. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...e-two-adult-children-turning-gun-himself.html

In January, this Arizona mother sang her children a "death lullaby" while smothering them to death! She has been charged and told authorities she was high on drugs and scared.

These stories are horrifying and heartbreaking to say the least.

I don't have anything to say....But, God Help Us..

The senseless death of children isn't newsworthy??? 😡🤬

Obviously, the dynamics of severe mental illness resulting in murder and/or suicide is highly significant to the family involved and its circle of extended family, friends, and their community. Beyond that sphere, what purpose does it serve to publicize these tragic stories?

In the 1970s I worked in the Protective Services Division of Children's Services Division for the state. Horrid abuse and murders of children by their parents has been going on for a long time. My first husband's father would get drunk and try to kill my ex. The only way he survived it was to fake like he was dead.

Using that logic, what purpose does it serve to publicize any tragedy?
Some people want to know what's going on - good or bad.

I think what we're dealing with regarding the pandemic and the fears and pressures the restrictions impose, coupled with financial concerns and just a fear of the unknown in general may account for some of this bizarre behavior.

In my state we're doing well controlling the spread of covid, but substance abuse is up and deaths by suicide and overdose have increased by 30% since March.

May I suggest that it might be time to avoid this choice of reading materials, @OneEyedDiva. I find that consuming this type of information is a useless and purely negative waste of time. It really isn't newsworthy, just horrific sensationalism.
How could real news be sensationalism?! I have an app called Smart News. I also use the Google news app and these things come up in the headlines. Should people in this forum also not post about other bad, sad, tragic news stories (floods, fires, riots, storms, etc)? I agree with you, however, that these things are tragic to read and I wish they didn't even exist. I stopped watching the news and barely read the news for about three weeks after the protests, then riots and looting started after George Floyd's murder. I just couldn't take it anymore. But I live in a world where these things are real and I can't keep hiding my head in the sand. BTW in case you missed it... this forum category is Current News and Hot Topics.

@win231 "Well, that's one way of looking at it. But some of us want to know what's going on & prefer reality." Exactly!

You are soo right OneEyedDiva, what is this crazy world coming to. It gets crazier every minute.

Stories such as this strike a nerve, but for those who may have a difficult time processing the likes of, I believe conversations related to such are therapy for those struggling with it, affording them a means in which to vent, to listen, and possibly to even inject the conversation with ideas relative to change or even prevention.

Shutting people out of conversation and stifling discussion IMO doesn't make for a healthy world or society, and neither does pretending that everything is rosy.

I say bring-on conversations and topics like this, and for those who don't care to drop-by to discuss, move along.

Once again, we see the effects of families being isolated from each other. In the past, people lived in family groups so there was always support in child-care and disputes. This virus has forced people to spend long periods of time together, and brought difficulties out into the open. There are always problems at Christmas and New Year, but that period is only for a maximum of two weeks. This situation has dragged on for months. It's not surprising that it has all got too much for some people.
Now of course, someone is going to say I think it's normal for stressed parents to murder their children. I'm just saying that I can understand how it can happen. I'm sure we all can if we're honest.

I am left wondering how someone jumps in front of a train and survives? Was the train moving?

I disagree. We are not locked in a room or a house with one another 24 hours a day. We can get out and about and life is moving on. As long as we wear our mask and observe social distancing, not much else has changed. We may be somewhat restricted with performing some activities and have to avoid some venues, but otherwise, not a whole lot has changed, at least not around here it hasn't.

It's also best to keep in mind that mental illness and being insane are two different maladies.
