I am thinking what I could do at home while there is no place to go. What do you do? Hobbies, books, crafts, puzzles?

I am outside as much as possible.... If not working outside.... then I just take a drive or visit the cemetery. I do go to the gym... I was swimming until Labor Day closed any open pools or lakes. I socially distance on my sister's porch once a week.... I don't have time for hobbies right now...

Today.... I went to the gym. I had to come home a bit early because the electrician was coming to repair a light switch that was troublesome.... Then, I was busy fixing meals in a jar.... that took a while..... then, I mowed, but I did't weedeat....then I had some work for about two hours.... visited facebook and my emails... and here I am looking at this forum

Yesterday.... I burned (small fire in my large firepit).... all the limbs and branches from the summer and one old log... that took a couple hours, then I worked for about 4 hours.... tried to go to sleep early, but two friends called (one 58 minutes, one 35 minutes).... didn't get to bed until late.

Tomorrow... going to can 7 quarts of something from the last of the garden.... probably squash.... or else tomatoes... they both need to be canned....then, if the rain hold off, I will weed eat.... which, I should have done today.

If I had time for hobbies... I would crochet, or sew, or read.....

At least you can still meet some of your senior friends. Our center has been closed since the end of March and a friend who also attended told me that she spoke to the site manager who said it's likely to remain closed until next year! I've talked to the people I became closest to on the phone. I will get to see one of my favorite senior friends tomorrow but under a sad circumstance. It will be at a "walk through" before her daughter is funeralized. She died of cancer.
It's nice you are getting to socialize. Enjoy and stay safe, stay well.

Wow! I had thought one of my senior friends was here on this very forum! But, you are in New Jersey. My senior center closed also, temporarily moving to a church, then to the new building. I live in the Panhandle of TX.

I caught up on lot of projects that had been put aside.
Many involved painting porch floor , an old RR lantern, piece of decorative metal scroll.
Saving embroidery work & crocheting for Winter.

There are online jigsaw puzzles,, haven't done any for awhile.
I didn't know there were online puzzles you could do. Can't lose pieces there.

We decided to get together at one our patron's house and still wear masks. Our senior group will meet together again in about 3 weeks, but we have to sign a waver, have our temperature taken, and wear masks. There are those that don't want to wear it because of different reasons, and we can't make them wear the masks. But, it is still great to get together and play our games.

We went to our granddaughter to help her in her new home....We see her all the time....She is a Nurse...Also our son was
there helping my husband put in a new lock for grand's front door....We also see my daughter and family...Not every day...
Our son lives 2 blocks away....He comes to see us every other day to see if everything is OK....
No problems here....The summer was great cause it was so nice to go outside and swim in the pool...
Its starting to get a little chilly...

No getting outdoors for us around here, there;s so much smoke from the fires. And no crafting for me; I can't stand using my hands for anything but turning the pages of a book or working a computer mouse or keyboard, lol. So I read & play games on the computer a lot. I wish I could do crafts & people keep telling me it'd be good for me but that thing with my hands...

There some sewing I could (and should be, sigh) doing, but I'd have to use my hands, so I put it off as long as possible.

I have been trying to clean out all the things that I no longer need or want. I have made several fase mask for my family and friends.I have made 75 and still making more. I am going to start making my 2 grandchildren a Quilt for Christmas.

Luckily, I never seem to run out of outdoor chores to do....living in a forest, with a fairly large yard and garden, etc. Now that Fall is almost here, and the bugs, especially the ticks, are about gone for the year, I have several dead trees to take down for Winter firewood for our big outdoor wood furnace....that will consume 2 or 3 weeks. Today, I finally finished staining the front deck. About the Only times that I'm not doing 3 or 4 hours of outdoor chores/daily, is if the weather is bad.
I dread the day when we have to sell this place and move to a crowded apartment, etc., if our health begins to fail.

My husband has been resisting moving to a smaller places becuz he loves all the outdoor stuff like you do. (I myself am sick of the outdoorsy stuff, so I guess that's one way we bookworms/infonerds/city-lovers have it easier when it's time to face facts that you're old & have to downsize.) One option (which I've tried to talk him into with no luck but hear it does work for some) is to move to a slightly smaller place a little nearer to civilization to get yourself used to it. Seems like it might be worth a try anyway. I know I've been forcing myself to have the tv on (whenever he's not home, of course) both for company & to start getting used to the constant noise that there'll be in the nursing home. I like to try to get used to what I'm dreading whenever possible.

So sorry to hear that....Hope you feel better soon....
I remember a couple of years ago in our town, the trees were getting on fire...My husband was on top of the roof
with water from the hose....We did get lucky when the wind changed....We lived near a power plant, which is
shut down a couple of years ago....
It is very quiet hear on our block...I don't see many kiddies playing outside, maybe because school is opened here...
But it was a different block in our area....since the lock down....Some would go to get their food in the grocery store
and never come out of their homes again, till they needed more food...We have a pool in a large backyard...that kept us busy...

we have a gazebo...I would bring my lunch and my book just to be outside....

I understand. But, don't give up hope. One day at a time.

I've written about this before, but my family enjoys our weekly zoom.com meetings, which we call Movie Night. We take turns recommending a movie for everybody to watch. The movie has to be accessible by streaming, and should preferably be one that most of us have not seen. My turn to recommend a movie was last week, and I recommended O Brother, Where Art Thou? which I loved, and most of them have probably not seen. Tonight is the discussion.

I read, go online, occasionally do jigsaw puzzles, play computer Spider Solitaire (the Windows 7 version), text with my kids, have a standing Zoom date with a group of friends, and do other Zoom get-togethers with family and other friends, watch a movie (Netflix or Prime) in the evenings with hubby. Throw in a little cooking, housework, daily walks or swims (though not now because it's too smoky to exercise outdoors), periodic grocery store and errand outings, weekly visits with my daughter's family, and other odds and ends. The days melt away.

I'm just past the six month point of rigorously following safer-at-home guidelines.

I am on line or crafting. Lately I'm taking naps due to something I've caught. Can't believe it's corona because I'm not that sick but will have a test tomorrow to make sure.
I take naps also but don't think I'm ill. By noon, I'm already "lusting" for that afternoon nap. I have to get away from this topic as it;s only a little after 9 AM and I'm starting to drift into "pleasure land"

You sound very similar to me. At the same point in time in relation to COVID . I still get out to the grocery store and places I want to go to and wear the masks.

Why do you feel you're going to wind up in a nursing home? Lordy I hope not with how those places have been since the virus.

I'm online some, as on this forum, I read a great deal. I watch a little television but very little.
I write, try to improve my writing, attempt a short story now and then, or maybe a free form
poem, when I'm in the mood. I don't get out. I've been out of the house twice in six months.
One must have something to keep the brain working at a normal performance.
