I wish she could have retired peacefully and enjoyed her remaining time. When I got the news last night, I thought it must be the worst thing that could have happened to our (my) country - USA, but I've since learned her death, and what will happen as a result of her death, has motivated millions to fight harder for all she believed in and dedicated her life to accomplish.

I dread her replacement.

I dread the process whenever it occurs.

Did a little reading about her last night. She was always a fighter. When she and her husband were at Harvard, he developed testicular cancer and she took notes for him as well as performing so well in her own classes to make Harvard Law Review ...all this as the mother of a small daughter.

I also had no idea she experienced the gender discrimination she did during her education and after as a young Ivy League educated woman. She did so much for women that I don't think a lot in my generation and younger are aware of.

She is a giant. They are going to build a statue to her in Brooklyn. I honor her.

How prophetic she died on Rosh Hashana, as according to Jewish tradition, a person who dies on Rosh Hashanah, which began last night, is a tzaddik, a person of great righteousness.

@Pepper Help us understand this! Found that Rosh Hashanah cancels traditional Shiva and that it's an honor to die on Yom Kippur, but I can't find a source about dying on Rosh Hashanah. I set my search parameters for 8/31/20 to eliminate any current references and didn't find anything, but I didn't do an exhaustive search.

Looks like I'm alone here NOT fawning over RBG. She was liberal to the bone, you were guaranteed 100% which way she voted on issues. A justice should be about law and that's it. She bashed our President often before the election. IMO should be means for "get-out".. And next time do your Job, keep your mouth shut and your petty agenda to yourself. May she rest in peace.

I don't agree with her views, I'm sure she voted for many things I'm not in agreement with. Again its difficult to say more without getting political. But if others can post about how great she was, certainly some other views should also be allowed I would hope.

...i think she’d fought her illnesses so hard because she knew how much we needed her. A weaker person would have retired before carrying all those burdens so long. Bless her brave soul.

That is just one reason why it's crucial to expand the size of SCOTUS. The path of our society shouldn’t rest on the health or illness of a small number of very old people. And it would allow us to unpack the court and create the basis for a more functional, consistent, and less partisan process going forward.

May her memory be a blessing. RIP RBG

Her "petty" agenda??

Did your Mama not teach you, "If you can't say anything nice..."? Also, you're on a forum that doesn't allow politics. RBG was a political figure, but a condolence thread about a political figure doesn't mean it's acceptable to negatively interject your personal politics in violation of forum rules. Of course there are people saying nice things. How many times have you attended a funeral where people brought up the negatives--perceived or otherwise--of a person's life? I hope never. It's not the time or place.

She spoke at our State Police Convention back in the late 90's. She was seated in the front row and so when she was introduced, she had to get up and walk up onto the stage and in front of the podium. The Trooper that introduced her was 6'3", so the microphone was almost straight up. When she got to the podium, she was barely able to look over the top of it (she is only 5'1"), so they brought a riser out for her to stand on. Then, she couldn't pull the mic down, so someone had to adjust that for her. She started out by thanking everyone for inviting her to speak and then told us that she always carried a copy of the U.S. Constitution in her pocketbook. She asked the fellow she was sitting beside to take her pocketbook to her. It wasn't there. Everyone in the auditorium was in law enforcement, so she made the comment, "Gee, I hope no one here stole it." And then, she laughed and so did we. She wanted to show us how tattered it was for being used so often.

She finally remembered that she had checked her coat and pocketbook at the door upon her arrival. That brought about another laugh. Once she had her pocketbook, she pulled out the small book of the Constitution and everyone applauded. She was not only an excellent justice, but she had charisma and for a Justice to have that is very rare. She was not what I had expected.

At the end of her presentation, she opened it up for questions. I didn't expect so many hands to go up and I don't think she did either. She said, "OK, let's do this for only maybe 15 or 20 minutes." I didn't get to ask her my question, but that was OK. We all really enjoyed everything about her on that day. As I already stated, she wasn't what we had expected. Witty and amusing at times and yet genuine and deliberate. Great personality and charm. Something that I had never expected from her.

Since I doubt seriously that anyone of us knew her personally ? It is very hard to comment about her in her passing , without the comment being "political" in some sense. Due to the position she held , the only thing "we" really knew about her.

For example, was she a nice person ? I really do not know, was she a PIA ? same answer, I do not know. She was a scholastic achiever , and a champion of woman's rights etc, and a staunch supporter of the liberal agenda.......but there again, that is noting everything political about her.

She was also a champion of *men's* rights at least once: the case she won for Charles Moritz against the IRS in 1971 (on which the Movies On the Basis of Sex was based); good article about the actual case: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/true-story-case-center-basis-sex-180971110/.
