"Kansas City" Wilber Harrison, "Dream Lover" Bobby Darin, "Battle of New Orleans" Johnny Horton, "Donna" Ritchy Valens, "Stagger Lee" Lloyd Price, "Till I Kissed ya" The Everlys, ""Come Softly to Me" the Fleetwoods, "Smoke gets in your eyes, The Platters, "Charlie Brown", the Coasters, "16 Candles" The Crests, "It's just a Matter of Time" Brook Benton, "Sleepwalk" Santo and Johnny, "Mr. Blue, The Fleetwoods, "Lonely Boy" Paul Anka, "Mack the Knife" Bobby Darin, "Teenager in Love" Dion, "Along came Jones" The Coasters, "Broken Hearted Melody" Sarah Vaughn, "Guitar Boogie Shuffle" The Virtues, "It's Late" Ricky Nelson, "Red River Rock" Johnny and the Hurricanes, "Put your head on my Shoulder" Paul Anka, "The Tijuana Jail" Kingston Trio, "Tell him No" Travis & Bob, "There Goes My Baby" The Drifters;
and that's just SOME OF THEM!

Definitely 1971. Sticky Fingers, Led Zeppelin IV, Who's Next, What's Going On, Tupelo Honey, L.A. Woman, Every Picture Tells a Story. Carole King's Tapestry. Joni Mitchell's Blue. Traffic's Low Spark of High Heeled Boys. John Prine's first album, entitled "John Prine." Janis Joplin's Pearl. Best of all (for me) The Allman Brothers Band Live at Fillmore East.

Singles included Bill Withers' Ain't No Sunshine, Don McLean's American Pie, Badfinger's Baby Blue, Sly Stone's Family Affair, Jean Knight's Mr. Big Stuff, and a million others.

But it wasn't all good news. John Lennon recorded Imagine, to this day still the song I probably dislike most in the whole world. And the #1 song was Three Dog Night's Joy to the World, which is a close second on the "dislike" list. Take Me Home, Country Roads, another bad one, was #8 for the year.

Gaer, this is an awesome list and should remind us all of how much great music there was pre-Beatles.

2020 and 2019 are my best years for music so far, but that's partially due to my not having yet reviewed a lot of the music of 2020 so far. I did review a fairly large number of albums in 2019 and it's still up there for me. 2018 and 2017 are the next two top years for me.

However the next year on my list is 1988 with the highlights being albums most people have never heard of.

While I love a lot of the 50's stuff, the 1960's and 70's (for me) trumps all. :)

Can't narrow down a particular year within the scope I have given, as there were just too many good years.

1979 was the year that I said goodbye to the old guard and my past in music
The Eagles-The Long Run
Pink Floyd-The Wall
Led Zeppelin-In Through the Out Door
Supertramp-Breakfast In America
Fleetwood Mac

And said hello the the new guard and discovered a lot of new artists to spend my future with
The Clash-London Calling
Talking Heads-Fear of Music
Prince-Prince
The B52's-The B52's
Elvis Costello-Armed Forces
Tom Petty-Damn the Torpedos
Squeeze-Cool for Cats

Oh, and timeless Neil Young released Live Rust which pretty much summed up the change in music ahead.

Late 50's to early 60's. I play a lot of Doo-Wop and have lots of recordings, but not as many as this guy. I tell everyone when asked if I like the Beatles that as far as I am concerned, they ruined my music.

Dr. Doo Wop
