Power Outage in This Weather

The power is out all over here for about 10 minutes now meaning no heat. I can take it but I'm going to have to cover my bird with a heavy blanket if the power stays out long.

It's still 73 f in here. It's 38 outside.

I saw from that article that there were over 60,000 outages, I'm in Cuyahoga Cty. where there were the most.

I was worried that this may have been something like when the eastern seaboard went out some years ago but thank God it wasn't. That was the last outage we had before this. Oh no, there was one more right here in my city when a car knocked a utility pole over--it was out for a few days then.

After our power company had planned outages during fire season, we bought a 4500 Watt generator. It will handle our refrigerator, freezer, and assorted appliances. We also put a power strip on a table so our neighbors could charge their cell phones, etc.
That would be a cool thing to have. I live in an apt. but could not afford the cost of a generator at this time anyhow.

One of the first things I bought when we moved to the country was a generator. Luckily, I've only needed to use it 4 or 5 times in 18 years...the worst outage we've had was about 18 hours. I fire it up about once every month, for 15 or 20 minutes, to insure that it is ready to go, if needed. It's only 6500 watts, but that is enough to run the basics.

That's a good thing to have I realize. I wish the building where I live had one, too, but this landlord would not invest in that...for us at least.

@Ruthanne I'm happy your birds are ok. I had a scare like that a few years ago. The power was out for days. I had mine covered but was so worried. I was just about to bring him to my sister in laws when the power came back on.
We now have a small generator that will at least heat the room he is in.

I know that's a good thing to have.

We were out 3 days... Gotta love living in a camper...
Unfortunately discovered our batteries are shot...
12 volt power only lasted 20 minutes...
Solar panels helped, $350 in batteries and alls good.
