The last British soldier leaves Afghanistan! Was the effort worth the cost in liv

This was evidently the biggest operation since WW2 and the cost in men and treasure may make it the last, especially when many feel nothing of long standing consequence will result. I tend to think that the whole afghan affair was a mistake for all. Your opinion is sought after...

I'm currently watching a documentary exploring the death of three Australians who were shot by an Afghan they were fighting alongside.
It happened inside the camp. From memory it happened more than once.

Yes, some of the documentary material coming out these current wars ought to make any government think twice about these foreign adventures again...

I seriously think all those years have been in vain..I will give it 6 months to revert back to what it was!

We will be more gainfully employed defending our own shores..it's about time Muslims fought their own wars..against fundamentalists..instead of getting us involved..they are trained now..they have the equipment...

As a matter of fact, I was just reading an article on Aghanistan and while I'm only half way through it, it sounds so far, like it was a total waste of money and lives on all sides. I think at one point it even points out how under the Taliban, at least poppy/heroin production was almost non-existent in that region but now it's thriving. Sounds like we should have stayed home. But our PM, well he's like a little boy with toy soldiers and he just loves the opportunity to play war as long as his own kid is safe.

That's a good post Debby...very poignant..

Iraq is rife with corruption...they can turn their rifles to whoever is paying them the most..

I don't hold out much hope..let's just hope we keep our noses out..

I don't know how many funerals I've watched..young men with no jobs..not even a minimum wage one, from deprived areas..attracted by the army salary..20..21..22...

Coming home in a box....

Post the number of deaths of the U.S. and British soldiers then you'll get real opinions.

It doesn't matter the numbers..obviously there were more Americans who died..

What I am trying to say is that our young men..with no hope of a job here...even a minimum wage one..were quickly enrolled as ''cannon fodder''

They had no experience of war..12 weeks training...

Even in the market...there were ''enrolling'' tables....

They didn't stand a chance..did yours??

The "first" Afghan was bankrupted the USSR and was a significant player in the fall of that Country. The rest of us should have learned a lesson from that. We didn't. Entirely too much blood has been shed by coalition forces on Afghan and Iraqi soil. Why? For the most part these wars have resulted in windfall profits for large corporations. War means tanks and weapons and missles and bombs and generators and tents and the list goes on. Defense Department contractors make huge fortunes, while sons and daughters die.

Both of these conflicts need to be clear of any coalition forces, except for maybe a few Special Ops giving some assistance to fight terrorism. The Muslim countries will fall back into as bad, or worse, condition than they were. Those who have had success with democracy will never change a centuries old culture that despises democracy. Let the countries over there sort it out. If they don't have the fortitude to defend their own, so be it. That responsibility certainly should not fall to we who live in civilized societies.

I don't know if they will..they are used to a life of savagery..human life means nothing to them..when it reverts it will be the women who get it first..

As always..

Can we watch again??....really??

Global Research carries the article that points out in the section titled War Profits, that a study by JP Morgan shows that in the past 50 years, arms manufacturers shares have gained 27,699%! And that's just the arms manufacturers. What about all the other support services? Big money in war!
