Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law

So now, Florida’s Governor would like to expand their SYGL to include looters. I never knew this was an issue in Florida, but maybe they are trying to make sure it never becomes a problem.

The essence of the law would be that if anyone witnessed a store or similar business being looted, they may shoot the looters. If passed, this may be looked at as Vigilante Justice.

Good idea or bad idea?

Good Grief, is Florida turning into the Wild, Wild West? Can you imagine the furor if the police started shooting looters? Half the country would be demonstrating in the streets. But it's supposedly OK for private citizens to do it? I don't understand the governor's logic (or lack thereof...).

When I saw this OP, the first thing that came to my mind was "is this true". Indeed, it appears to be.............

I am fully in favor of "stand your ground" if some fool is trying to break into a home, etc., but to allow "vigilantes" to randomly shoot looters is really pushing the limits, IMO. About the only way I could support that would be if the armed owner of a small business was inside while some looter was breaking into his store.

I'd have to read the bill first. From what the news article says, I presume a person whose business it targeted and looted, the owner has the right to shoot the looters. I did not ascertain that anyone else had that right. As for vehicles running over and possibly killing rioters unintentionally, that is a no brainer. Rioters do not belong on the roadways, they are intended for motor vehicles and other forms of transportation. Sidewalks are intended for pedestrians. If rioters want to take the risks of being on the roadway or any peaceful protestors for that matter, be prepared to pay a price. On the other hand, if a peaceful protest is scheduled and the proper permits issued, then the police will generally close off those streets in order that they my march through.
