Spoons, do you use speciality spoons?

There are several types of speciality spoons. To name a few:
Sugar, soup, dessert, beverage, grapefruit, absinthe, caviar, ladle, slotted, baby, risotto, demitasse, flat end, serving, teaspoon, and others.

How many types of spoons do you use? What spoons do you wish you had? I wish I had a grapefruit spoon. I love grapefruit. I use teaspoons, soup spoons, and various serving spoons. The flat end spoons are used for ice cream. 😂 They look much too small.

I have specialty spoons, but they are all silver and put away in the silverware box. As for grapefruit, I peel and eat them the same way I eat oranges :)
I finally got my mother’s silver set a few years ago. She won it on the old tv show Queen for a Day. I polished it as a child and felt it was mine 😂. But she threw the box it came in away 😡. My son loved the set and I passed it on to him, along with the cookbook I used as a child which was handed down as well.

He say he decided to polish it once, 😂, and it was murder and he didn’t finish doing it. I polished that stupid set once a week.

After polishing, I wrapped them in plastic wrap or foil wrap to keep them from tarnishing. I handed down my mother's and mother-in-law's silverware to my daughter, as I did vintage glass plates, tea cups, etc. She enjoys using them when we visit.

Tell your son to fill the sink with water and vinegar, and lay a sheet of foil in the bottom. The tarnish will lift in a few minutes. My late MIL shared that hint .. it really does work!

I use the basics but I have a few odd ones, similar to these, that rarely see the light of day.

L to R, long-handled stuffing spoon for reaching into the bird, mother of pearl nut spoon, salt shovel.

My Mother's grandparents came from England and were very much a part of the Victorian age with a dish, spoon, or doily for every occasion.

I'm so glad that the Hippie movement eventually freed us from the bonds of gracious living.

I personally only eat with teaspoons (soup included) and dessert forks. Even my 5 year old granddaughter knows that Grandma gets a little fork.
Like Pinky, I peel and eat grapefruit the same way as oranges.

I used to peel the grapefruit, but with my stomach issues eating the, hmm, fiber part, not good for my issues so I’ve stopped. Today is shopping day. I think I may buy a juicer and just juice my grapefruit. I like the pink ones.

Teaspoons for stirring a cup of coffee or tea, tablespoons for breakfast cereal, certain rice dishes, etc, wooden mixing spoons for mixing/stirring, a ladle for serving-up soup from a pot, and wonton soup spoons for wonton soup.

Do remember serving tea at church functions when I was a young girl, and the little sugar bowl spoons I'd insert into the bowls before placing the bowls on the tables.

This reminds me of the TV series, Everyone Loves Raymond, where his mother was always accusing his wife of stealing her Big Spoon.

I use the typical teaspoons and tablespoons, and I have a large slotted spoon and a large wooden spoon...and a soup ladle, of course.

I'm afraid that I don't set an elaborate table, even for company...

We don’t set a table at all since my husband put our dining table in his study to do puzzles on. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm not above buying silverware in thrift stores. I scored some great Oneida USA stainless spoons and forks (about 16 or 17) right before the lockdown at a thrift store for 25 cents each. The spoons are larger than a teaspoon and smaller than a soup spoon and have become my favorites. I have grapefruit, slotted, larger serving and a number of small gravy ladles. As long as they are not made in China and I like the pattern, I'll buy.

Who has a cutlery drawer that big to hold them all? Soup and tea spoons for me, but then I'm a knuckle dragger.

Wow...I didn't know there were so many kinds of spoons! The two types of teaspoons I use most might both be considered teaspoons I think. One has a longer handle than the other (looks like @Aunt Bea 's stuffing spoon shown above). The spoon part seems slightly smaller than the regular tea spoon. I believe it is used to stir iced tea. I have what I guess is considered to be soup spoons but they are too big for my mouth; my husband used to use them. I have serving spoons and ladles but don't use them often, especially since I do not entertain. I have plastic yogurt spoons we got from a frozen yogurt place. I like them because they are colorful and do not weigh down things that come in the individual size plastic containers.
