I find this photo very appealing but I expect others may find it confronting.

I think the photo and story is lovely, an act of nature as Pappy said.

Good on the university for their support.

A drama queen attention seeker. And never mind that it's a "natural" act. So is vomiting and piddling and no one wants to see that either. Call me a prude.

I agree. Why would any sane person wish to be photographed in such a pose, unless they were attention seeking?

I fully agree Lee. Notice her skirt half way up to her arse besides the bare boob. This should have been done in private.

This young mother appears to be making a statement, such as "look, I'm a university graduate and an advocate for mothers nursing in public".

Personally if I see a nursing mother exposing herself in public, I just want to look away. In India on buses or in public the nursing moms cover baby and their breast with a shawl or scarf - for privacy.

Sometimes there's no other choice - have lunch in a 'tent' or endure stares and leers, especially in less forgiving cultures - unlike in our western free world.

I hid myself away in my own bedroom and it was a ridiculously complicated ritual. I was also unsuccessful in establishing lactation past 2 months. Young mums today who are much more relaxed about breast feeding seem to be much more successful.

When I see a mother breastfeeding in a coffee shop or at the playgroup I don't stare but I don't go out of my way to avert my gaze entirely. Better a happy infant suckling than a distressed, crying baby shattering the peace.

She had no need to have a photo of herself taken whilst doing it in a 'sexy' pose!

Not exactly a 'sexy' pose is it? She is just sitting down and the front of the robe opened up (probably from the squirming baby on her lap) and she crossed her legs to keep the kid from sliding onto the floor while she feeds junior through the overlarge sleeve opening.

You do realize that the University shared the photo on Facebook don't you? So maybe the university is the 'attention seeker' and she was just feeding her little kiddo in a corner of the cafeteria.
