What Is It? - #21

Here we have a wooden item from the 1870's, and it's something that I personally did not even know existed.

Here's a top and side view ... length 21" long.

What Is It?

It's an ancient harmonica........not really. Don't know what it is.

You can say that again . . .

it's something that I personally did not even know existed. What Is It?

I dunno. Is it used in the kitchen?

Not in any kitchen I've ever seen ... put it this way: you could use it there but I don't think it was meant to be.

A weaving machine? OR a pasta maker. A bullet loader? I have no idea

You have ideas. Unfortunately they don't fit the item. ;) Good guesses, though ...

BWA-hahahahahahahaha! I'm getting my revenge for that last one that was so easy! BWA - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Enjoy your revenge. I haven't the slightest idea what the heck this thing could possibly be. Maybe, after some good guesses by others and the slick clues parceled out by the master, I'll give it a shot... maybe.

Do you mean that you didn't know it existed back then, or that you didn't know it existed at all? Just trying to narrow down the options!!

Excellent point!

I meant that I was not aware that this item, in any of its many forms, was ever in existence at all. I did not think it was necessary or used for the purpose which it is indeed used (or was used). ;)

I am in fact enjoying my revenge immensely - my white cat is dozing on my lap as I twirl my handlebar mustache, chuckle evilly and order my minions to bring me more Boone's Farm wine.

It's a drill bit holder.........:p

No, but an excellent guess, and in fact I think it COULD be used as one, although that is not its intended purpose.

Cigarette/tobacco roller?

DING! DING! DING!

And we have a winner!

It is a Cigar Maker / Cigar Mould, with a patent inscribed on the case: DUBRUL'S MOULD, PAT MAY 9th 1871 / MANUF'd BY THE CINCINNATI SHEET METAL CIGAR MOULD CO / CIN. O.

I really didn't know that they used such moulds - I thought they just rolled cigars the way you roll a cigarette.

Congratulations SeaBreeze, and thank you everyone for playing! Keep an eye out for the next WHAT IS IT? ... ;)

It was used in prisons when the inmates were in a small dark cell to allow air to come in through the holes!!!! I'm hung up the "its many forms".

I just figured some kind of torture device might be something you'd show to us!! After the "pig de-nutter", I'm guessing whatever it is, it can't be normal....:playful:

I'm honored, and I'll try to meet your expectations with a future What Is It.

Of course, I'll expect YOU to win that one ...

Well done, SeaBreeze! No wonder I didn't have a clue as I always rolled my the old fashioned by-hand method . . .
