Threads from Early in 2020

Reading some older posts and the plans we had for the year, so much has changed.

Did you have expectations of travel, work, moving, whatever?

Our reality sure deviated.

One of our big things was a major trip to Europe. With age & health & Covid reality, it’s unlikely this will ever happen.

Not being able to visit with family was never ever expected.

Since we’ve managed, so far, to avoid Covid, I don’t mean to be unappreciative. Just looking back at a former reality.

I missed going to the casinos and having a buffet once in awhile. Other than that I can't complain.
Our kids are close enough so we were able to visit and even had a week long vacation in a house my daughter rented in South Carolina being ever mindful of taking all precautions.
We managed holidays as well.
Shortages at the grocery store was a problem at times but seeing what many people have gone through makes me very grateful.

We had planned a rather uneventful year because we were expecting our first grandchild who arrived in late March. So there weren't any "big" plans that were upended. However due to the pandemic our times with our grandson have been nothing like we imagined. We rarely get to see him and when we do it's at a distance as our son and his wife are very Covid cautious.

What I missed most from last year (because I'm not that into babies) was live music. I didn't see any live shows because we travelled when the shows that happened before the pandemic hit were held and the last one I had tickets to in early March wasn't worth the risk of getting sick.

In spite of everything we were able to take two wonderful camping trips, were able to do some wine tasting several times and took some nice day trips. We also did a lot more bicycling in our area rather than going elsewhere to bicycle and had some great times.

I had expectations of probate being completed and using some of my inheritance for my long planned rail trip of Eastern Europe. The former will happen eventually ,the latter probably never will.
i hope to go to Jersey this Summer but who knows?
My normal series of Autumn concerts didn’t happen. One is supposedly happening in September and the other in November.
And my fifty plus years of support of my rugby and cricket teams came to a grinding halt.i have no real hope of seeing them this year. And there comes a point where you just don’t miss it and never return.
i always thought the only thing that would stop me going was being put in a wooden box.I never dreamt the government would stop me!

I had plans to travel, domestically and globally, what with my back all healed and finally walking just fine on my own by late 2019. Since I'd been basically home-bound for the 3 years prior, aside from cancelling any travel plans I wasn't hit so hard by the changes C-19 brought, except I didn't get to see my daughter and her daughter, and my great-granddaughter, "Mads", born in 2020. They all live down in the greater Los Angeles area and baby Mads had some health issues. I finally got to see them recently. Also I had to cancel plans to finally go meet my other two great-grandkids who live in the midwest. I'm optimistic that will happen this year.

The biggest change for me has been not venturing out each day to run an errand or make a small purchase.

I've gotten to the point where I'm content to stay home and going out at all has become a nuisance.

I'm hoping that I can find a balance or new normal by the time 2022 rolls around.

We'll see.

There's probly a lot of people in that boat so I think we'll see a slower-than-anticipated economic recovery.

I miss teaching T’ai Chi in the park, although I have a contract with a local farm to teach T’ai Chi with goats once it is safe to do so. Lol. I miss seeing clients up close and personal in my office. I had planned to teach transcendental meditation at a couple of women’s

retreats. was going to spend two weeks visiting friends in Vancouver’s China town. Obviously not possible. I miss seeing people, I have one person in my bubble, and I avoid stores etc whenever possible. For now, staying healthy and offering support to frontline and essential workers = my prime directive. We will get through this!

I miss GOING to Tai Chi class.

I didn't know goats were into it. ;)

The economy is a conundrum to me.

Millions of people out of work yet retail sales are up, the stock market is up.

America seems to be splitting itself into two very different countries.
Yes, Wall St has been doing okay. Not so on Main St. It will be interesting but I anticipate a major shift during the recovery; doing business very differently.

On a funny note, one way staying at home because of pandemic has been beneficial.....I have learned to pole dance! Whew, I am fit, but initially lacked the arm strength necessary for such an

endeavour. Took approx seven weeks before the pain was gone. Lol. Learning to do this while wearing heels remains a work in progress. I thank the person who told me I was too old to learn. 😁 Marvelous exercise, and great stress reducer. So much fun, too! 😈

OMG, my favourite!

All through life I garnered energy, ambition, and a taste to embarrass others who didn't believe in me. They were the driving force that made me believe in myself and succeed.

"When someone tells you it can't be done, it's more a reflection of their limitations, not yours".
