Pot. There is a constant smell of pot everywhere. If you could detect any other odors, it would be water, salt water, sometimes refreshing sometimes not so much.

Suntan lotion and Northern flesh cooking, overlaid by car exhaust fumes, the smell of credit cards overheating, and the slightly acrid waft of unwashed Micky Mouse t-shirts worn once too often.

So, you're over in that borough. I left my parents, grandma and daughter there. At United Hebrew, right next to Old Town. I visit sometimes (sigh). When I'm in a car with grandson and we pass the Verrazano I tell him "If you want to cross on that bridge it costs a million dollars." True story.
