Do people still dance together?

Gaer

"Angel whisperer"
Do people still dance together? I know i'm out of it here in the sticks but I haven't seen anyone dance for many, many years! Bars are for drinking. Clubs where you used to dance are gone away.
Are any of you old enough to remember the waltz, Foxtrot, swing, tango?
My favorite were the latin dances, especially the rumba and the samba!

Then disco came in. This IMO was the death of music for awhile. Good musicians, all over the country, couldn't get work because of the piped-in electronic
"stayin alive"stuff. Not only was real music dead but dancing was dead. Well, Dancing with a partner, I should say.

Do any of you still dance? Do live bands still exist out there?

We don’t dance professionally or anything but every once in a while my husband will grab me and start dancing with me. It’s usually when he’s really excited and in a good mood about something. It’s really sweet either way. He isn’t a great dancer but I don’t care. I wouldn’t change it for anything.

And YES live bands still exist!

I always danced "properly" when I used to go out,
a sort of ballroom style, though not as perfect but
not too bad, all of my dancing partners I fear have
gone to the big ballroom in heaven, they probably
have a seat at the table waiting for me to join them.

Jigging about and facing each other from several
feet apart is more like military training than dancing.

Mike.

Hahaha! Remeber Disco?
After my divorce I was out to a club with the girls. A guy asked me to dance. He was flapping around and spinning. He noticed a wall of mirrors was behind him. From that moment, he danced to his mirror image. All i saw was his rear end, so
I just went and sat down.
Dancing as a prelude to intimacy was dead too. hahaha!

The Glenn Miller band is alive and well, Gaer. Lots of people show up where ever they are appearing and love to dance to their music. I've seen young kids even jitterbugging or doing the Lindy Hop, which is similar.

I’m a ballroom dancer, and swing dancer. I used to compete and do showcases, but haven’t for 10 years or so. I was socially dancing every week, and doing some training, till Covid hit. I still dance at home to keep up with my technique but it’s a poor substitute for dancing with a partner. I think I might have some footage of just some casual/social dancing. I’ll see if I can find it.

Is this a "look-alike" band?
Do you ever go there and show them how it's done?

My husband and I used to dance and he was a great dancer... ...now I dance by myself at home everyday for fun and exercise .. I tell Alexa to play anything I remember with a good beat..mostly from the 60s but others as well...some of my fav --- proud Mary, cotton fields, brown eyed girl, living la vida loca, bread and butter, kokomo, spirit in the sky, salty dog blues, did u ever see the rain, ..well you get the picture.. :D

Did they call him John...T.... and was he wearing white suit ? :sneaky:

My husband and I do all the ballroom dances like Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango and the Latin dances like Rhumba, Cha Cha, etc. Also all kinds of Swing dancing including East and West Coast and a little Lindy. We took private lessons for many years. Of course, we have not danced for a year. We belonged to several social dance clubs but even before Covid, many around here had stopped due to poor attendance. Most of the dance studios were doing OK before Covid, but it seemed like social ballroom dancing was in a decline here. Swing was extremely popular around here with young people before Covid, however.

I love dancing but haven't danced for years , my husband doesn't dance, and there's nowhere here in the rural shires where I could go alone or with a friend..

@horseless carriage and his wife are superb dancers, I'm sure he'll be along to post some pictures soon...
Ronni is right: "I’m a ballroom dancer, and swing dancer. I used to compete and do showcases, but haven’t for 10 years or so. I was socially dancing every week, and doing some training, till Covid hit." By the way Ronni, my wife and I have danced at the Wildhorse Saloon, what a fabulous venue.
Choreographed dancing as in, Latin & Ballroom, is still popular, but seems restricted to organised clubs and dance schools. Any other social event where there's a dance, it's more of a case of improvise. When we dance it always seems to clear the floor while everyone watches, so we rarely do, especially if it's a wedding or similar event as this photo shows. Don't tell my dance teacher about my heel lead!

Well it looks like you’re doing jitterbug
or shag so a heel lead’s just fine!! 😂
