A serving British police officer, Wayne Couzens 48, accused of the kidnap and murder of Sarah Everard, appeared in court for the first time yesterday.



Despite the vigils being cancelled, people brought floral tributes and left messages of solidarity at locations around the country.

The heavy handed approach of the police in breaking up the vigil at Clapham Common hasn't helped the image of the London constabulary.

The Ukrainian-born scientist married Wayne in 2006 and reportedly played a role in the 33-year-old's mysterious kidnapping and death


Elena Couzens, the wife of Wayne Couzens has been arrested on suspicion of assisting the kidnapping of Sarah Everard. Everard was kidnapped from South London on March 3, and her remains were found in Kent earlier on March 12. The mystery of her kidnapping is dominating British news, given that Wayne is an officer with the Metropolitan Police.

Elena is a Ukrainian-British scientist who married Wayne in 2006. She was arrested by the police on March 9 and later released on bail. The couple has two children together.
