A whistleblower is anyone who has and reports insider knowledge of illegal activities in an organization. Whistleblowers are protected from retaliation under various programs created by occupational safety and health administration, Sarbanes Oxley Act and the securities and exchange commission. Federal employee protection is under the Whistleblower protection act of 1989.
Edward Joseph Snowden is a former computer intelligence consultant who copied and leaked highly classified information from the national security agency in 2013 that revealed numerous global surveillance programs, run by the NSA and the Five Eyes intelligence Alliance with the cooperation of telecommunications companies and European governments.
Snowden remains a subject of controversy, he has been called a traitor, a hero, a whistleblower, a dissident and a patriot. US officials condemn his actions as having done "grave damage" to the US intelligence capabilities. Snowden defended his leaks as an effort "to inform the public as to that which done in their name and that which is done against them.
Do you prefer knowing as opposed to not knowing pertinent information that may impact the way you live?
Given the strong opposition of people in power it is unlikely Edward Snowden will return to the US without subjection to a court of law. How would you vote guilty or not guilty if in some way made a mental note that the privacy act was exploited by our own trusted officials.
