Wild Animals

Always enjoy encounters with the various animals whose home I've visited throughout my life of riding waves. The majority just ignore ya but the sea lions are a curious bunch from the bulls who swim by giving me stink-eye to the playful pups grabbing my foot underwater.
The best time was paddling out just before dawn on a low tide in the channel alongside the reef when I noticed a lot of dark lumps moving and discovered it was sea lions joining me. They formed a V and escorted me out to the break. I love those guys!

The Kea, found in the forested and alpine regions of the South Island of New Zealand.View attachment 155364
Took this pic of a kea in the car park at Milford Sound on the South Island. It was checking out the cars LOL.

The kea's notorious urge to explore and manipulate makes this bird both a pest for residents and an attraction for tourists. Called "the clown of the mountains", it will investigate backpacks, boots, skis, snowboards, and even cars (most commonly the rubber areas e.g. windscreen frames), often causing pecking damage or flying off with smaller items.

Austrailian Carpet Python - harmless & many people keep them as pets because they don't get to the huge size of other Pythons.
Some have amazing color variations:

Platypus populations in north-east Victoria are much stronger than expected after last year's bushfires, much to the relief of researchers.

Australian Platypus Conservancy researchers set nets in four locations along the river and found 12 platypuses along the upper Buffalo River near Myrtleford.

Biologist Geoff Williams said the animals probably survived because they were normally in the water or in their burrows underground.
