I don't live anywhere near there so I have nothing to worry about. Will these shootings never cease seems like they won't.

The Governor in Tennessee just signed off on the bill, which goes into effect July 1st, that adults 21 years old or older will be able to carry handguns, openly or concealed, without first clearing a background check or training.

Will this same scenario play out over and over again?
"The law, which does not apply to long guns, will take effect July 1. The new measure also increases certain penalties. For example, theft of a firearm — now a misdemeanor that carries a 30-day sentence — will become a felony with a mandatory six month incarceration. It also makes exceptions for people with certain mental illnesses and criminal convictions."

No matter what laws are in effect in any state, federal laws may be given priority, i.e., while on federal property or in a federal building. Leave the state, and you must abide by that state's laws as well as applicable federal laws. Use your weapon in the commission of a federal crime and only federal laws apply, and you have no argument when your weapon is confiscated.

I read that the police officer is recovering and is good spirits; will be ok.

Saw a Tweet from a lady who lives near there, saying there are gang shootings all the time near that school and the only reason this got national attention was because it was at the school itself.

After your post, RR.. I looked it up on Google street view, and I have to say it does look like a very rough area... and a further Irony is that directly opposite the school( just a few yards) is a Mortuary 😲

I think they will significantly decrease at the very least. The problem is systemic; blaming guns instead of solving real problems such as our mental health system, the prison system, homelessness. When the current programs and systems finally admit their ineffectiveness, we'll begin to see real progress.

I hope so, Murr!

I swear gang activity is willfully tolerated. I live in an area where there's quite a bit of gang activity and the only times you see cops around here is when they're passing through at 60mph on their way to the freeway access.
Or for a 2 for 1 doughnut special. :)

IMO, the penalties mean nothing.

It should be law, that all persons buying firearms should go through a background check and be trained to use them...not like their new law, just go buy a firearm and able to open carry or conceal it. That to me is BS.
