Avoid Knoxville Tenn. Active shooting.

IMO, the penalties mean nothing.

It should be law, that all persons buying firearms should go through a background check and be trained to use them...not like their new law, just go buy a firearm and able to open carry or conceal it. That to me is BS.

Because of this saying by some gun nut enthusiasts, "A right delayed is a right denied".

This seems to happen a lot at this particular high school:

On March 9, 15-year-old Jamarion Gillette died in a shooting. Police said he had been missing since October.
On Feb. 16, a 15-year-old Austin-East student was shot and killed near a home on Selma Ave.
On Feb. 12, a 16-year-old Austin-East student was fatally shot as he was driving home from school.
On January 27, a 15-year-old was shot and killed from the backseat of a car in Northeast Knoxville.

For some reason, I don't think any of the shooters involved worried too much about background checks.

It is. I don't know why the Tennessee legislature approved this new law. I only read 2 articles about it and neither one gave any reasons. I do know that the law is only applicable in Tennessee. IOW, if you go there to buy a gun without having to go through a background check, and then take it home to your state, you could face legal problems and the gun being confiscated.

But I agree with you. The vast majority of mass shooters are mentally unstable people, and background checks include looking into whether or not the applicant has a history of mental health issues or treatment.

This country has lost its mind.

"The law, which does not apply to long guns, will take effect July 1. The new measure also increases certain penalties. For example, theft of a firearm — now a misdemeanor that carries a 30-day sentence — will become a felony with a mandatory six month incarceration. It also makes exceptions for people with certain mental illnesses and criminal convictions."

No matter what laws are in effect in any state, federal laws may be given priority, i.e., while on federal property or in a federal building. Leave the state, and you must abide by that state's laws as well as applicable federal laws. Use your weapon in the commission of a federal crime and only federal laws apply, and you have no argument when your weapon is confiscated.
And the other point is you will need a new background check and purchase permit for each future applicable firearms bought.

The perp fired at police as he was coming out from where ever. Sounds like suicide by cop/blaze of glory too me. After a certain point deep down many know when they are done period.
