Nobody cares...
I agree. Gruber was right most Americans are stupid when it comes to those pesky details of daily life wether it be finance, insurance or politics. With this latest victory the Republicans now have a margin of error ie not every single Republicon has to sign off on a bill. This will affect the public Republicon or Demorat.
I don't think people are as dumb about finances as they used to be. The numbers show that more people are investing than ever before. A lot of people got scared in '08 and '09, but most and even more have returned to the markets. People are also more conscious of their spending and saving. Some are not as frugal as they should be and therefore; suffer the consequences, but all in all, I think a lot of people are more wiser today that ever before.
I have a friend whose son is pretty wealthy. Whenever I am at my home in Florida and he comes to visit his Dad while I am there, we talk money, like most men do. A couple of things that he told me that makes perfect sense to me may sound foolish to others. For example; he said that he will always have a mortgage payment and when he gets it down below where the interest he is paying is no longer helping him (tax wise), he refinances it and reinvests the equity. If he is only paying 4% interest and can make more than that, then he is doing the right thing for him. Of course, you have to consider capital gains and all that and hopefully, not live in a state that charges seniors any personal income tax. The other one he is against is having life insurance, unless you already have a paid up policy. He says that he takes the policy premium that he would pay each month and invests it. I doubt if he really does because he has probably already paid for his final arrangements. It must be nice to have a lot of Do-Re-Mi.
So, I have to, or at least like to, believe that people are financially wiser today than ever before. But, I will admit, I see a lot of younger couples spending their future or borrowing on it by using plastic.

That's updated news and I appreciate the updates rkansaw because I don't get regular TV. And since there are sides (which I wish there weren't) I like to hear both so I appreciate your post.

So what??? They do not have a Veto proof majority.... nor do they have a fillibuster proof majority... So it means virtually NOTHING.. lol!
Besides... the Republican majority will be very short lived... two years to be exact..

Your right but any Republicon who thinks they will vote 57 in unison is fooling themselves but that's the point. 6 Republicons can cross over and they still will sign off on what Rhinos want them to. This is still a rudderless party. The Demorats are not far behind. Without a president in office they would be swirling the bowl as well.. In others words it's going to be the same old stuff regardless majority-minority

Yes.. and reality will set in soon after the New Year.. All the clucking and Crowing over the wins in the midterm will prove useless.. Nothing is going to get done as everything needs 60 votes to beat a fillibuster.. Even if something passes, the President can still veto it.. THEN it would require a 67 vote majority to beat the veto.. The only way the Republicans can push something through with a 51 vote majority is through a budget appropriation called a continuing resolution. But that can be vetoed by the President. So things will stay pretty well knotted up.. Although.. we may see some compromise on some issues.. Time will tell.
