5 things to ponder as a nation

We don't have as far to go, as we've already been
I really believe we are living in what history will record as the end of a great nation. :(

1- You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2- What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3- The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4- You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

5- When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work, because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, That is the beginning of the end of any nation.

There are a good deal of people who cannot work due to disability and no one would even hire them due to the disability if they could possibly do the job. That's why it's a good idea to have a source of income from Social Security for such individuals for they would become homeless without any income and surely perish then after that. The amounts that SS benefits to them is so below the poverty line that it is almost impossible to live on without getting some additional type of benefit such as low income housing and other services that they need.

The problem in America was the death of the middle class which was achieved by giving the WEALTHY tax breaks, and never raising the minimum wage. The minimum wage in this country is a joke. Social Security is also out of touch with the needs of its recipients and as soon as SS checks are increased expect major corporations to find a way to steal that money right back by raising the prices of utilities, health, and services to the breaking point.

So don't blame the financially impoverished for doing nothing and expecting everything. Blame the unbridled greed of the wealthiest classes. Wealthy corporations have been screwing the middle class into annihilation for decades.

Well said, Chic, and right on the mark! Exactly!

There is a shortage of willing workers now because of the stimulus money being handed out. They would have to take a pay cut to go back to work. Restaurants here are having a hard time to find wait staff. Just this morning, the trash pick up only consisted of the driver who stopped every few yards to get out of the truck and pick up the bags and then jump back in and do it over again at the next house. Usually there is the driver and one or two guys who do the loading.
