How Do You Protect Yourself From the Crime Waves in Your area?

My town is on the small side. There is crime, but not in waves. Mostly domestic, drug related and traffic. So far, anyway. I feel pretty safe here.

One day, I was sitting in my car at Walmart waiting for someone and counted 14 cameras placed around the roof.

I wouldn't go for a stroll late at night, but crime can and does happen at anytime.

Same here. The police blotter column in the local paper mainly lists minor traffic violations (e.g. driving without registration, driving with a suspended license, driving while ability impaired), Seldom any really violent crime. Once in a great while there are some reports of malicious mischief or a violation of an order of protection. A dull but relatively safe community.

We’ve had a tough-on-crime reputation in this county for years, but it’s slipping. Even so, I feel safe on the streets and in parking lots. And we own firearms. I understand crime in the big cities, especially those that favored defunding the police, has increased a great deal. Imagine that.

Always be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention not even for crime but get to know neighborhood and neighbors. It's frequently when the visitors come in that poop starts. I always look for strange cars. Also pay attention to news and/or police reports in your town ie has there been burglaries, home invasions, drug dealers arrested. Criminals are in your town for a reason.

Yes, I do that, too. It's the town right next to me that is having the car jackings now. I get all the news on tv every day.

You've made me appreciate living where I do. In the 15 years I've lived here, there has been the occasional 'domestic' incident and an alleged burglary that turned out to be an insurance scam. Other than that, 'crime' consists of driving too fast through the village, or dropping litter.
Pretty much the same here too, we live in pretty crime free area, except for petty crime ...... as I've already stated a couple of times on here, we had a porch pirate at Christmas... fortunately we have a Video ring doorbell, so we were able to capture the guy very clearly, and he was known to the police apparently, so he was arrested almost immediately ..

he's obviously been doing this a lot, .. he's in court next week... I'm not expecting him to get more than a fine.. but I'm pleased the police took it seriously...

Much the same down here in The New Forest, about the only serious crime is someone getting caught, drink/driving. I have never even seen a firearm except for going through an airport during a heightened security alert. It doesn't mean we are lax with our security but break ins are unknown, there might be some petty pilfering or shoplifting but walking home in the dark holds no fear, or worry.
