Just saw on the wires that Amazon bought MGM for $8.5 Billion
Some American consumers fight urban sprawl. I attended a huge rally in the smallish town where I lived back in the mid-90s. A locally owned pharmacy, a diner, and a few other family operated business where going to be torn down to make room for a Walmart. We protested right up to the day the bulldozers showed up. It was a done deal no matter what the people wanted.Yeah, I know it. Same with Walmart. There are no small businesses in my town because Walmart put them out of business.
American consumers are as much to blame as the greedy conglomerations that suck the life out of small time stores and businesses.
Ironically, communities were aware of the possibility Walmart would shut down local businesses, towns across America turned their backs on local merchants and lost their unique identity for a stupid slogan Spend Less/Live Better.
It seems people are overly eager to accept short-term relief or savings without regard to long-term consequences like what will this cost me in the long run. People seem to concentrate on instant gratification rather than waiting for a better solution. When we want something, we want to have it yesterday, nevermind the cost. The trend is I gotta be the first one to have the latest gizmo. I want the latest model car and the best car at that because what I wear and what I drive reflects who I am and how much I am worth or pretend to be.
Status is about how you present yourself according to the group of people you associate yourself with. It's just my wife and I now. We seldom go anywhere other than church or the store, but we enjoy spending time together so it doesn't matter what we do as long as we can do things together. No, we don't have to keep up with the Jones's
The wonderful thing about ageing is seniors don't have to prove themselves
$8.5 billion seems kind of low. I mean, it's a lot of money, but seems a bit modest for an auto manufacturing company.Just saw on the wires that Amazon bought MGM for $8.5 Billion
Are we not talking about MGM --an auto manufacturing company.
Oh.Are we not talking about MGM --
Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios, the movie studio, or
MGM Resorts -- resort, casinos, etc.?
Not the resorts and casinos. Just the movie end. We’ll have an endless choice of movies to stream from. Maybe.Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios, the movie studio, or

Yes, I do and never go near Amazon or other tech giants because of it. You're spot on.Speaking of Amazon, I wonder if people realize that the covid lockdown resulted in a large transfer of wealth from people and small business to a select few huge companies (e.g, Amazon) and government bureaucracies (CDC). Take a look at who contributes to the CDC (foundation)
