Have you ever gone fishing ? Did you like it ? What did you catch ?

Yes I’ve been fishing. Once when I was about 6 years old and several times since.

I think I caught a brook trout in the French River when little and sun fish and white fish in Algonquin park once older. I’m sure I went fishing on camping trips with friends but don’t remember. Too much goofing off. I ended up swimming around the boats. Lol
All times were a lot of fun.

Later on my husband bought a pink fishing rod but it was a cheap rod and I never caught anything with it. Recently we discovered the ‘reel’ was malfunctioning so today I got myself a new rod. It’s called an ‘ugly Stick’ and has a Shakespeare reel.

Yes I realize there are better rods but I’m an amateur fisher person.

I’m going to catch something soon. I hope😬
My picture won’t upload.

I've tried a few times and as far as I remember I've never caught a fish. To me it's kind of like watching paint dry. If my life depended on it I'd want to get better at it, but as an enjoyable pastime it isn't for me. However I can see how others can really get into it. A friend of mine used to be a fly fisherman and used to tie flies as one of his hobbies.
I caught a lot of trees when I was fly fishing. 😂

I fished all my life but have tapered off in recent years. It used to be about catching the biggest and the most, but now it's just a reason to get out into nature. In the past there were more places to go, but it seems that more and more private and posted signs have gone up. Access isn't what it used to be. High water and ice flows have changed the bank in the river too, so former paths are now vertical drop-offs. It isn't what it used to be.

The most fun fishing I ever had was in the early 90’s when my husband and I went interior canoeing in various provincial parks. One time we went for 18 days. Since we had to carry our food on all the portages, we kept it at a minimum so had to rely on fishing.

The great thing about canoeing @ Algonquin park is that there are canoe routes going from lake to lake all attached by rivers. When they weren’t we carried our canoe and all our gear.

Interior camping is a lot of work but there’s nothing quite like swimming with the otters during the day and catching fresh fish early evening to cook on an open campfire . It’s the tastiest thing. Those small sun and white fish are fairly tasty. The only thing is that we had to burn the fish skins ‘n stuff or toss them far away or it attracts bears.

Early morning we’d get up and perk some fresh coffee over the camp fire and savour it with a shot of Baileys in place of cream & sugar. Great way to start the day. Well, it was back then. That’s fun fishing.

not many fishing trips but one very memorable one. neighbor and his brother co-owned a boat... not a luxury yacht... that would have had a bathroom. my sister was dating neighbor's fishing buddy. he took the 2 of us out fishing. up before God. he probably had 6-7 rods/reels.

we get out to where he determined we'd find "fluke" and got a rod ready for my sister. her baited hook go in and he get rod ready for me. as he hands me my rod, sis gets a bite. he scrambles to help her pull in a nice sized flounder... then has to re-bait her hook. as he hands her back a fresh line... I get a bite and he hauls in another nice sized flounder.

poor guy! i think we had 3 fish before his bait even got wet.

everything we caught was big enough to keep... and all fluke. total? not sure. was there a limit? don't know.

when we got home neighbor hadda take pics with us posing like fisherman holding the biggest ones. guy who took us went to show them to a buddy up the road. he came back with an aluminum pan of freshly caught/cleaned filets. perfect fishing day. we caught fish & never got our hands dirty! all we had to do was haul them into the boat, cook & eat!

sardines! dad liked them (in mustard) for taking to work as his lunch. have always liked mustard on stuff and have tried, TRIED, TRIED to like sardines that way. they're one of those "good" fats, right? would be good for one person as a snack or even a light meal... BUT they're just way too fishy for me.

Wayyyyyyy to fishy.
Yep!👍😅

A tuna fish. That’s a big fish. Nice catch.
Apparently mackerel is related to tuna.
I only recently discovered that they run in waves. My husband caught some in that wave last week. The colour, shape and tail look similar. Learn new things everyday.
