Gawd - I hate labels

I'll never understand it - please enlighten me.

Why do we place labels on others that have different views from ourselves?

Live and let live as long as you harm no one.

I agree. Here are a couple of YouTube videos I have saved on this very subject.

I live by the adage, "live and let live", but if and when a discussion unfolds where I am asked how I feel about something (anything), that's where I draw a line... that where the game changes.

My take on issues is going to vary on that of what others think, especially being old-fashioned like I am, and because we live in the day and age where a percentage of the populous seems to be under the impression that because our world has progressed and moved past stumbling blocks and hurdles associated with certain lifestyles, practices, etc, we should all embrace and adopt those changes, because it's the right thing to do, and we should be more accepting of, well now, that just isn't reality.

As for labeling, I'm good with labeling. I've been labeled this and that over the course of my lifetime and it's changed absolutely nothing in relation to me. My nature has remained the same, I remain strong and steadfast, I remain committed and dedicated, and I will continue to carry on thriving regardless of how others perceive me or label me.

I have a life to live and it's not to go out of my way to please others, just I don't expect others to go out of their way to please me.

Because everyone else does it, monkey see monkey do or maybe boredom and nothing better to do.

Who is doing the labeling? Are they all knowing of the person they've labeled? Does their label bring a change in the person labeled, or anyone aware of it? Does the labeler realize they are showing themselves to be jerks?

I hate those labels they put on apples that seem like they're superglued on and you have to cut them off with a sharp knife. So, yeah, I hate labels.
The guys who work at the organic compost recycling warehouse have to peel those freaking labels off before they toss people's banana peels and apple skins into the shaker. They have to pull out all the coffee filters and those thin plastic produce bags, too. It's a huge drag.

People, remember to peel those dang labels off your fruit and toss the coffee filters and produce bags in the other bin. ...if your county has compost recycling, that is.

I think we forget we are animals. We have all kinds of innate emotions, and self protection strategies. One being the telling of friend from foe. It's probably why humans have such a well developed facial recognition trait. It's the "us vs. them" thing. That trait may have helped us when we came across another human in the forest. But today, we live in a "civilized society", and yet, we still categorize others, maybe not into friend or foe, but by a form of that- labels.

I just posted something about this phenomena that is applicable...

I don't think anyone forgets that we're (theoretically) advanced monkeys, but some people have been properly trained and others, not so much. We label them accordingly, and are either repulsed by or drawn to one or the other. That's natural, imo.

Forgive me. Apes, not monkeys. Thank you.

It's easier to vilify and discriminate against people when you assign them labels as opposed to thinking of them as fellow human beings. It's one of the first lessons of war, you give your enemy negative labels and it's easier to get your people to kill them.
That's why , when driving, most of us who are so-inclined, call the person who has just flipped us the bird, an as--ole before we shoot him or her. Makes it a lot more justifiable and easier.

True, sadly so. The propaganda wheel crushes everything in it's path.
