An investigation into the shooting, which occurred just before 8 p.m. Saturday local time, is ongoing, Li said, "and police are appealing to the public and witnesses to come forward with information to assist in the investigation."

Toronto Mayor John Tory condemned the shooting, which he said occurred at a child's birthday party, calling it a "shocking and outrageous act of gun violence."''

Impossible! Some people have said there is no gun violence in Canada, thanks to their strict gun restrictions.

:ROFLMAO:
Who has said that? Nobody! Please show us a quote. Kids have been shot and your first response is this? 🤷‍♀️ There is nothing funny about this.

My heart goes out to all those children whose lives have been affected by this needless violence

Violence is increasing...All Over the World. Our US media seldom reports on what is happening in other nations, but I often watch the BBC news, which does a far better job of reporting the Global news...and the upheaval in the US isn't as bad as what is going on in some other nations. Between this virus, climate change, political upheaval, etc., etc., things seem to be going downhill All Over the world.

I for another welcome a quote from @win231, as well.

"Because you live in the USofA, you just allow everyone to walk on you?

Is that what the gun-culture in the USofA has created? Everyone living in fear? Afraid to say anything or stand up to anyone?

That's the joy of calling Canada my home, our governing parties are intelligent enough to recognize how unintelligent it is to allow it's people to pack guns around."

Just a few of your many quotes on the subject, Marg.

Although I agree with Keesha that there is nothing funny about this, I do see a certain irony in it. Tragically, this kind of craziness is not limited to any one country, and no country is free of it.

Sunny. If you reread the entry from @win231 (post # 2), I believe you will find zero content as to anyone claiming that there is no gun violence in Canada, thanks to their strict gun restrictions.

That is the issue at hand in my reply (#5).

Too bad! I am glad to live in a small town. No violence here. Maybe someone's fuse blew from all these restrictions over the last 16 months?

Your statement about Canada vs. the U.S. speaks for itself, Marg. And your answer is exactly what I knew it was going to be.

For a long time now, you have been trashing the country that you like to call the USofA, boasting endlessly about how much better, safer, etc. Canada is, and how glad you are that you live there, and so on. In fact, your usual smugness reaches new heights every time you get on this subject. So I have to agree with Win on this one, it is a sad kind of ironic humor.

So, taking a page from your book, is that what the gun-culture in Canada has created? Everyone living in fear? Afraid to say anything or stand up to anyone?

Obviously, no part of the world is free of gun violence, not even your beloved Canada. There are guns in the hands of people who obviously shouldn't have them. It's a small world, and nothing stays in one country for long.

Packerjohn, from what the article says, it sounds like they have made no arrests yet, there may be no suspects yet, and obviously no motives. Who knows what could cause such insanity? Your theory may be right. Or it could be one of a hundred other causes.

They know who they are.
Hint: They live in Canada. 😊
Hint: Read post #6

A post is a post and different folks have different thoughts but for ANYONE to add a happy, laughing face while discussing children being shot is IMHO beyond unconscionable and I DON'T GIVE A CRAP WHO KNOWS IT !!

Children for God's sake. How low have we sunk?
Okay, but to blame everyone (as in "we") for something one person may have written doesn't work, either.

Missing the point - also amusing. 😊

No home, street, town, city or country is safe from violence. When it occurs, reporters interview witnesses or neighbors whose comments almost invariably include, "I never expected something like that would happen here."

This shooting is a tragedy, as is all violence, particularly when children are targeted, injured or otherwise affected.

I am deeply saddened by this incident as a human being and in solidarity with my Canadian family and friends.

It should also serve as a wake-up call to anyone who smugly states or implies that gun violence only happens to other people in other countries: shootings can happen anywhere, anytime, and victimize anyone. Even children at a birthday party in Canada.

Your comment reminds me - do you remember that shooting on that Norwegian youth camp island? Some guy set off a car bomb in front of the Norwegian Prime Minister's office, killing 8 people and injuring about 200, then took a boat out to the youth summer camp island and killed 69 more, mostly teenagers. This in Norway, where they have the strictest gun laws on the planet and a reputation for being a peaceful, happy place. It was shocking.

Yes, I remember that one:

Remember the Anders Behring Breivik well. What a catastrophe for the Norwegian nation. On 22 July 2011, he killed eight people by detonating a van bomb amid Regjeringskvartalet in Oslo, then killed 69 participants of a Workers' Youth League summer camp in a mass shooting on the island of Utøya.

Reminds me of the Martin Bryant massacre here in Australia. He murdered thirty-five people and injured twenty-three others in the Port Arthur massacre, one of the world's deadliest shooting sprees, between 28 and 29 April 1996. Sparked a huge backlash here and resulted in severely revised Australian gun laws and a huge gun buy-back.

A few states here tried the gun buy-back program. They didn't net many firearms, and a lot of the ones they got didn't work or were old rifles handed down from people's grampas. Some were even guns that were found in lakes and rivers. Not a bad racket for the sellers.

LOL - "Gun Buy Backs." They had a few of them here, too. They were offering $100.00 for every gun & $200.00 for every "Assault Rifle."
Well, the gangsters were much smarter than the Governor & Mayor. They started buying up all the military surplus SKS's they could find when they were going for $50.00 - $150.00 & getting $200.00 ea at the Buy Backs - including some from Vietnam that were rusted & non functional with half the rifle missing. Some of them made enough to buy some real good guns on the street, plus have thousands of dollars in change for cocaine.

The news media was at some of the gun Buy Backs & a group of gang bangers showed up with a TRUNK FULL OF GUNS.
Well, police promised "No questions asked."

I'm sure police and sheriff departments knew exactly how that program was gonna go. Too bad nobody listens to them.
