A new SITCOM on AMC : "Kevin Can F**k Himself"

Here is a free video of the first two episodes. This is a experiment in filming technique and plot. The heroine plays a "Edith Bunker" type role married to an Archie type husband. The formula SITCOM techniques are exaggerated ( the set looks almost exactly like "All in the Family"'s and use canned audience laughter). But, the heroine is waking up about how she let herself be trapped in this shallow, meaningless marriage and eventually decides to break free of it. These scenes are captured in single camera "real life" contexts. Weird idea and I am wondering if anyone thinks this will gain momentum through it's eight episode season.?

I will not be watching it. In fact, I stopped watching AMC because of this show. I didn't like seeing this show advertised on the bottom right hand side of the screen when watching another movie / program. Just the title of this show turned me off to it. It will never be like "All in the Family", those days for good SITCOM's are gone.

The name is so off-putting and juvenile I won't be veiwing. Did the writers just come out of junior high? jmo.
I recently heard mention of this program's title, I'm not impressed with the mentality of TV writers these days. The story line does sound interesting, but I'm not sure the writers can deliver a palatable sitcom, if it ends up being like those aired in recent years.

The title is a real turn off. I hear blasphemy, foul language, etc. on cable shows and don't care much for it. It's lazy to use those words when the vocabulary available is much bigger and more colorful. I suppose it's just to get the public's attention.

As an aside, a few weeks ago my cable company dropped AMC, BBC America, and five other channels from Basic Cable and don't offer them on other cable tiers either. The reason they say is that cable customers are treated as second class citizens since we didn't get first release viewing. So what? It is just another money grab for cable. I will miss Dr. Who and some AMC programs.

This was brought to your attention not to be offensive or crude. Maybe an impartial examination of it appearing in this time when so many issues are unresolved, and so many people are becoming more and more afraid of not living their life to its' potential because of mass inequality, plus the crippling effect of our societies huge problems with the pandemic, partisan everything, and isolation. Everyone believes there is a solution. These solutions vary from emotional bias ranging from love to hate. No doubt they used the F word to shock us, but we all know the controversy surrounding the "WOKE" wars, that are dividing us further. The bombastic nature of the series is fairly accurate mirror of our times. Like it or not, our current time is fraught with existential crisis. We all feel it, and can only hope for the best for the younger generations.

We have been manipulated by powerful organizations to be led like sheep over a cliff. Consider the cover ups of those mega money orgs...fossil fuel, smoking/chemical/medications, food, nutrition, military/police force and on and on. Understanding how to make the changes necessary to bring some order out of this chaos is not within our grasp so we we revert to an emotional response. That response is growing to the point that name calling, divided opinions, and outrageous behavior
"All in the family" fit into its' time because it brought very controversial issues to our attention. Now when they are brought to our attention, we revert to old patterns of defending our own personal bias as a solution. That method is dividing us further. IMO nobody has moral high ground, they just revert to identity definitions that support their ego.

Either we find a way to communicate sanely with one another, to behave in such a way as to find a way to discuss these massive issues, or the big companies will keep dividing us and slowly killing us. In the new SITCOM she reverts to finding a way to kill her plastic husband with a perfect murder. In the "Truman Show" he finds a way to escape. This is a show about being hypnotized by moneyed propaganda that sucks the life from you, and how drastic a situation we are in because of mass media empires, and our feeble attempts to free ourselves. My 3 cents worth... :)

I watched both episodes, and I too think Kevin can f**k himself. Both characters are quite the caricature of the real lousy marriage though. The show has more of a King of Queens feel to it, than All in the Family, I think. The show got on my nerves like King of Queens did. If they develop Kevin a bit more, they might have something then.

THIS SHOW IS GARBAGE. I'm on record for saying that I cut my cable almost 20 years ago. I wouldn't watch this garbage even if you paid me because life is too short. Another proof for me that we are living in a "Dumb and Dumber" society and this show just carters to these kind of people. Why do I think of VOMIT? By the way, I have watched all 9 years of "All In The Family" and still have all the DVDs that I bought from Amazon. That show had talent, great acting and funny lines. Archie Bunker might have been a grumpy, red neck but he had comments on our society at that time that were worth while to listen to. Along with his wife, Edith, daughter, Gloria and son-in-law, "Meathead" they discussed social issues that today would be taboo in our present very politically correct, media controlled society. This new show is a new low for the direction our society is going! Actually, I don't think it is a good comparison with "All In The Family."

We agree.... This new show is a new low for the direction our society is going! GARBAGE!

Good way to put it, King of Queens DID get on my nerves, they had a crummy, immature relationship that never bordered on "funny". Kevin James is a decent actor and comedian, but the scripting for his character Doug was demeaning and insulting. However, King of Queens of immensely popular, ran 207 episodes plus eternal re-runs.

What bugs me is how the show tries to lead us to empathize with the psycho wife. Yes Kevin is an immature jerk, but he didn't do anything to deserve being murdered.
Now I know for sure I'm not watching this insane SITCOM. I didn't even watch the video @Paco Dennis posted. I'm glad I have a wall full of old DVD's I always watch. TV programming has reached a new low and still dropping IMO.

So true.

I watched part of the first episode and I found it amusing in parts, in other parts I felt sad for the female lead but I didn't feel either enough to watch the episode until the end, so I don't think it will be a show that lasts. It's my opinion though that TV is designed to get eyes to sit still long enough to view the advertisements. A controversial title will draw eyes, for a while but without quality content, those eyes will wander. But TV is all about the advertising. That's what makes money for the stations and the program sponsors. It lures us in to sell us products and so many of us are lured in for hours on end. With so many hours to fill and with attention spans so short, not all of the content will be quality but the title of the show grabbed a lot of attention, even if only for a moment. It made us think of the title of the show, the network that it's on and who knows who the sponsors will be? But it made us feel and in that sense it's a success already.

Speaking of swearing I watched Master Chef last night and the young candidates include their comments on what is going on. Often their words are bleeped out on every episode. So I thought why don't the producers just inform the candidates not to swear when commenting? Is that too difficult?

Wow. A fine analysis, Paco.

I'll have to watch the clip later - I have to leave soon for an appointment. But, personally, I don't like the single camera "real life" filming style. I get why they chose it for this series; to keep it real; but I find it distracting. I'll watch it later, and share my thoughts on the content.

I'm a big, BIG fan of DVDs from Amazon. Over the years I have watched the following series:
1. All In The Family - 9 seasons
2. Have Gun Will Travel - 6 seasons
3. The Waltons - 9 seasons
4. Hawaii Five-0; the original show not the newer "copy-cat" - 12 seasons
5. Bat Masterson - 3 seasons
6. Quincy M.D. -
7. Wanted Dead or Alive - 94 Episodes
8. Gunsmoke - 20 seasons; I am right now viewing 2nd half of 12th season
10. Rawhide - 8 seasons; I am right now viewing season 3
11. Rifleman - 6 seasons
12. The Streets of San Francisco - 5 seasons
13. Canon - 122 Episodes; truth be know I have not yet opened it but will in the near future.
14. Doc Martin (British) - 9 seasons.

I am not promoting Amazon but if it wasn't Amazon, the local stores sure don't carry these quality shows. All these shows and no "4 letter words". That says something to me and bodes poorly for where our society is now heading.

That's why I DVR everything I want to watch. I DVR the News and Weather also. Tired of listing to the same old BS news, Covid Shots, Shootings, Politics etc. so I Fast Forward to see what the Weather will be then erase it.

Thank you for the list. I see some I need to buy. (y)
