It's against the law in Connecticut to burn trash or leaves, banned in other states as well. Write to state representatives to see if they'll stop that pollution. We have a planning mill not far from us.
They burn scraps of wood,, so wood smoke is often in our air.
That said , I still get anxious when I smell wood smoke.
Where we used to live the older lady up street, would burn her trash outside on windy days.
Several times our other neighbors & us would be out battling the grass fires from her trash burning.
There was a small stand of larch between her house & ours.
Always afraid they would catch fire from blowing bits.
Really late for a reply, But there are a couple of agencies up in No Cal that are taking in animals, including livestock, that are in wildfire areas. One of them is in Chico. You can also call No Calif Fish and Game for phone numbers of people who will go get your donkey and house or re-home him at no charge. (they take voluntary cash donations)As much as I miss California,I most definitely don`t miss the wildfire threat. Although my dog and my donkey are still there-and unfortunately both are in extremely vulnerable areas. I`ll be picking up my dog in a couple of weeks but sadly,my donkey is going to have to live out her life there. But here in Idaho we have very hazy skies due to the smoke from California and Oregon.
Yes,there is one in Lake County called LEAP that helped get my animals out in 2018 during the Mendocino Complex fire. I was 3 hours away and could not get back in in any case. But now my donkey is up in Willits and I feel confident that between my vet,who lives next door to the boarding facility, and the owner of the facility (and their husbands),that in the event of a fire, they will go above and beyond to save all the horses.Really late for a reply, But there are a couple of agencies up in No Cal that are taking in animals, including livestock, that are in wildfire areas. At first glance I thought those were paintings! That train looks so bright blue and pops against the hazy background. Great shots! I'm so sorry about your family. Any updates for us?Woke up here to a hazy yellow-orange sunrise with smoke clearly drifting towards us from the Dixie fire in Plumas Co. It has grown to 143,000 acres. We have family who have been evacuated from the surrounding area. The fire is headed their way, and they don't know when they will get to return or if there will be anything left when they do.
I'm keeping an eye on our air quality on this handy map here.
Thought I'd share a couple of awesome images of firefighters spraying water on the fire from the top of a train. I have been reading that is not uncommon. I never knew.

No fires nearby right at the moment, but here in the high desert near the foothills of the San Bernardino / San Gabriel mountains that could change quickly. Can you smell the smoke in your area? Do you have wildfire fears?
You are right, in college I worked summers as a firefighter for the Forest Service (Teton National Forest) we always considered Labor Day to be the peak of fire season, and that's still weeks away. In those days fires in our district were few and small, but we got sent on some impressive ones in California, Oregon, Idaho and Nevada. The news, this morning, said that this is already the 3rd largest fire event in history, in the West....and fire season usually lasts until well into November....another 3 or 4 months. Unless there is a major change in the weather patterns, bringing substantial rain to the West, this year may well set a new all time record.
These events are just awful !! I feel so sorry for all those affected. The news, this morning, said that this is already the 3rd largest fire event in history, in the West....and fire season usually lasts until well into November....another 3 or 4 months. Colorado has been receiving some good rain in the Rockies, but the burned out areas have caused mudslides that have closed a major portion of I-70....forcing traffic to take long detours...even having to go North to I-80, in Wyoming, to travel from Denver to Salt Lake city.
Between this pandemic, and the weather, 2021 is shaping up to be a rather bad year.
we are experiencing smoke even here in kansas
Denver has the worst air quality of any major city in the world today!

My Sister and BIL live on the far western end of Arvada. They said the air is so smokie that they can barely see the mountains....just a few miles away. They are staying indoors and wearing cloth masks, dampened with water, to try to avoid breathing in this smoke.
Yeah, it's nasty. We have all the windows closed in the house. Luckily, it's not too hot. I guess the smoke is blocking out the sun rays to keep it somewhat cool.My Sister and BIL live on the far western end of Arvada.
