It's not a "T." The "Y" Type, as it became known, was a new design. It's the iconic radiator that makes it look so much like the "T" series sports cars.I've never heard of the YT but weren't all of the MG 'T's drop heads?
Well, what I am trying to say is that "all" (apparently not true) MGs of the time MGTC MGTD were drophead motorcars. It's not a "T." The "Y" Type, as it became known, was a new design. It's the iconic radiator that makes it look so much like the "T" series sports cars.
Nor do pigs and handbags.Wigs and convertibles do not go together either. View attachment 178212
I think probably the earliest I've actually seen was a TC.

It’s a Mustang GT convertible. Turbo. 5 speed.
A wonderful story ... well-written too!My first car was a convertible. It was an old Mercury Montego. My brother and his wife donated it to my mom and dad who passed it on to me. Yes they thought they were so magnanimous. It was the worst car I ever drove. Plus it was ugly. The gas gauge was broken and it used gas like crazy and I would get stuck walking to a gas station often. What a piece of junk. Sold it to some dope for a work car. Hope he enjoyed walking as much as I did.
It renders itself a magnificent profile. My wife is asthmatic, so a convertible, with all the pollen inhalation, is a non starter. But if money was no object it would have to be:

It has a name that just trips off the tongue: A 1935 Duesenberg SJ LaGrande Dual-Cowl Phaeton.
Did those come in a soft-top version or were they all a removable hardtop?I had a '57 Ford Thunderbird back in the late sixties. Wish I still had it.
Mine only had the soft top. I wanted the hard top but never got one.Did those come in a soft-top version or were they all a removable hardtop?
I'll bet hardtops for the early T-Bird as rare as hen's teeth today unless they are manufactured as aftermarket. That porthole really set it apart from anything else. I loved it! I saw a '56 for sale in a used car lot in San Antonio back in 1966. It had a Ford 406 big block that the previous owner had installed. I would have loved to buy it but I was too young, had no money, and I was stationed there at Fort Sam Houston only one month prior to shipping out for Vietnam. I wonder what happened to that car? If it found a good home?Mine only had the soft top. I wanted the hard top but never got one.
I think we had something like this too; my uncles put it together for us.This is not me, but I had one just like it, a bit posher with inflatable tyres.
