Convertibles - do you own one or have you previously?

It's not a "T." The "Y" Type, as it became known, was a new design. It's the iconic radiator that makes it look so much like the "T" series sports cars.
Well, what I am trying to say is that "all" (apparently not true) MGs of the time MGTC MGTD were drophead motorcars.

Back in April of this year, we bought this.

It’s a Mustang GT convertible. Turbo. 5 speed. Back in ‘66, when Ron was in his late 20s, he bought one brand new...it was his first ever brand new car. He’s wanted another mustang ever since.

He's 6"2" and this car is a good fit for his height. He shaves his head so when the top's down, unless we take it out at night, he always wears a hat to protect his head from the sun. I wear a scarf over my hair otherwise my short hair stands straight up after a ride lol!

We bought a cover for the car because we don't have room to garage it, which keeps it clean and saves it from weather wear and tear. It's not our daily ride, and it was in excellent shape when we bought it, so after his mechanic checked it out thoroughly, it was given a hearty thumbs up. It had been very well taken care of, so we don't expect any major mechanical issues. Ron says the top will need to be replaced at some point, but that's just because he's so picky about his vehicles and there is one very slight ding on the fabric and it bugs him. It's cosmetic only, the top's integrity is fine, no leaks, the mechanics of it work perfectly.

We don't drive it every day so it doesn't get much wear and tear. We've been thrilled with it!

My first car was a convertible. It was an old Mercury Montego. My brother and his wife donated it to my mom and dad who passed it on to me. Yes they thought they were so magnanimous. It was the worst car I ever drove. Plus it was ugly. The gas gauge was broken and it used gas like crazy and I would get stuck walking to a gas station often. What a piece of junk. Sold it to some dope for a work car. Hope he enjoyed walking as much as I did.

A wonderful story ... well-written too!

I had a '57 Ford Thunderbird back in the late sixties. Wish I still had it.
Was it red like Robert Urich's in "Vega$?

or white like the one Suzanne Somers drove in American Graffiti?

Mine only had the soft top. I wanted the hard top but never got one.
I'll bet hardtops for the early T-Bird as rare as hen's teeth today unless they are manufactured as aftermarket. That porthole really set it apart from anything else. I loved it! I saw a '56 for sale in a used car lot in San Antonio back in 1966. It had a Ford 406 big block that the previous owner had installed. I would have loved to buy it but I was too young, had no money, and I was stationed there at Fort Sam Houston only one month prior to shipping out for Vietnam. I wonder what happened to that car? If it found a good home?

We've had drop-tops forever. Just went digging through photo's for snap shots of some of them. :)
Start with 57 Belair's. (y) then a few of the others.
