disgusting Tenant left rental home full of beer cans and rotting food..

To get rid of the smell of a place like that takes removing all the dry wall and anything else that is porous. If I had not seen this and wish I didn't, I would have never believed it.

I don't know what is wrong with people!! How utterly disgusting, inconsiderate and trifling! Unlike the dictionary definition, I used to hear the older folks use the word trifling to describe someone who is worthless, no good, nasty and/or lazy.

It would be hard to draw the line about where a renter stops being a slob, and it becomes an act of deliberate vandalism. Who would make such a determination?

That's probably why no one gets arrested for these offenses.
...and in the Uk it can easily take 2 years or more to get tenants out, and in all that time they're not paying rents, and trashing the place at the same time. It's about time this was considered a serious act of vandalism and carried an appropriate punishment by the courts..it happens all too often...

I agree HD.

The likes of this make my blood boil. These slovenly, dirty b****rds should be jailed for this and made to pay (one way or another) for the damage and trauma they've caused.
Believe it or not, Jail is not the answer for this particular person although Jail would be like living at the Ritz for him and the taxpayers would pay for it...but wouldn't stop him from repeating the offense. This is a case of Mental Illness and needs an excellent mental health program and facility which our country has failed at. So very sad for all involved.

Lara this is a house in England... this person is clearly more of an alcoholic, paid for by the taxpayers pound.. than someone with MHI

Jail not the answer?
Then this individual should be made to work, preferably down the sewers where he would be most comfortable.
What he did was a clear cut act of vandalism towards the property owner.

Work...yes! But who is going to hire an alcoholic that is this far gone? He needs some rehab first. I agree that he clearly vandalized the property. But I'm addressing how to move forward.

I lived in a building where my landlady lived on two floors, on one side, On the other I had a first floor place, (which I had for 15 years), and a separate upstairs apartment. The upstairs people moved out, as there were problems with them. My landlady said ,"you gotta see it". All the inner walls had all the plaster removed, so there was only studs between the rooms, with electric socket just dangling. Why they did this????

Decades ago my husband and I decided we never wanted to be landlords. We never regretted that investing decision.

More people live in filth than people suspect. The condition of yards and house exteriors are pretty good indicators of what's going on inside.

I feel bad for the owner of the home in the picture. It seems to me that it could almost be a criminal offense of some type. Isn’t intentional destruction of property a criminal offense or maybe a misdemeanor?
As a tenant you are required to keep your premises safe and sanitary yes. If this were in the US, I can see a criminal damaging charge, plus the tenant is monetarily liable civily, even if it does not rise to a criminal offense level, cost of cleanup, etc.

The bathroom in the video was so disgusting, I could hardly believe it

If you've ever watched "The Hoarders" on Netflix, you have seen houses so packed with junk that there are only narrow paths to walk through. Those people do have mental problems.

I know when I was a grad student living in rental properties, there was quite a problem with renters just abandoning their flats filled with second hand junk furniture and personal possessions once their lease was up. This was on top of cigarette-burned counters, dogs being allowed to urinate against walls, and even dart boards being drawn and used on walls... 🙀
