As I grew into my adult learning years, I had followed the advice of the nation's favorite humorist, Will Rogers, whom once uttered the quote that you should never believe anything you hear, half of what you read and all that you see. Knowing now after 50 years in the tech field, I believe that the quote should be amended, You should never believe anything you hear, read or see. Any of it can be manipulated to be whatever they want you to believe. Always question the motive behind the opinion.

Intelligent people always question the motive. And the motive usually has something to do with money.
Robots are easily programmed because they don't question.
 
Some like to think that they are "free" to do what ever they want. Their concept of "freedom" is not relying on others for anything. That only works for a hermit living in cave. For the rest of us, we depend on others to provide for us. And those people want something from us. We live in an interdependent world. So the more others get from us, and the less we get from them, greatly benefits those people. That's a long way of saying, "cash is a motivation". People have a vested interest in not telling the truth, if their incomes are at stake. This applies to snake oil salesmen , up to "misinformation" talking head TV shows.
 

I always try to find out as much as I can about the journalistic source; religious, political, educational affiliation. What's in it for them. Do they have ethics? Or, are they just a mouth piece for someone else.

That is so true. I was looking in Facebook today and someone posted a picture of something called a transformer scooter. I got excited because they said you can buy 2 for $49. I thought it would be great for my husband because his knees are really bad and he has pain all the time. Of course he doesn't let that stop him from doing anything. They said you can buy them at Walmart. Of course, it wasn't true. So it's true Never believe half of what you read.
