And....Hurricane season is far from over. There are more forming in the Atlantic that could pose threats to the Gulf and East coasts.

That is because they are formed over warmer ocean water now and grow extremely big before they hit the continent. They contain more energy than before.

Which one is Mindy?
Early in the season to be so far though the alphabet, Sept 16 is normally the mid-point. We may pass Z this year.
Our local weathermen like to keep us on our toes:
Tropical update: There's a brand new tropical storm in the Atlantic, Larry developed out of TD #12 and is the 12th named storm of the season. Larry is already looking quite impressive on satellite imagery and is forecast to become a major hurricane by this weekend. The good news, as of right now the track does keep it out over open water and not a threat to land.
Elsewhere, closer to home, we have an area of disturbed weather in the West Caribbean Sea, that has a low (30%) chance of development in the next 2-5 days
They said that one would become Mindy if it develops further.

September remember,
October all over!
Never was quite sure if "October all over" meant hurricanes were all over the place or the season was all over. Either could make sense, there are lots of hurricanes in October, but not so many afterwards. As you say Annie can happen in November and other months. But in my experience August, September and October are the worst.

Thanks for asking @RadishRose, we got through the storm just fine. Some other parts of Jersey got hit very hard and had a lot of flooding.
We never flood but I'm always worried about tornadoes which did touch down in some areas.
I can't imagine losing my home. I feel so bad for those people who did.

When I lived in the Florida panhandle, Mary Ester, (two hundred yards from the beach) my home insurance company made my life miserable . always after me to do this and that OR lose my insurance

A tad off topic BUT one thing which scares me far more than hurricanes are earthquakes. I was in the 7.2 earthquake in San Francisco in 1989. As I ran outside, I could see the water in the swimming pool rushing from one end to the other. Lost maybe 1/2 of the water. As I looked down the street, I could see the telephone poles swaying back and forth, like reeds in the breeze.
With hurricanes, at least I have some warning. Earthquakes give no warning.

My Aunt just got power back to her house in Houma, but the neighborhood is still a mess so she has not tried to move back in. Still staying with her son in Baton Rouge. Most power is back, but not all. Things are recovering.

I hope she emptied her refrigerator before she went to Baton Rouge ?

Don't know, but probably not. Lots of people need new refrigerators after a hurricane, for this reason.
I learned not only to empty the fridge, but leave the door open. If you flood a closed refrigerator floats and becomes a battering ram in the house. Happened to me, I found out the hard way.

Last year there were 20 hurricanes and this year just past midseason we are at 16. Hopefully as temperatures start to drop the Gulf of Mexico will cool down. We have had very cool mornings this week in the low 70s and a cold front is approaching so our mornings will dip in to the upper 60's. I have had all the windows open to let some fresh air in for a change and no AC running which is good for my electric bill.
