Do you feel "old"?

I'm 75, and disabled. I was getting into my car yesterday. I have a light weight wheelchair that I use. It was raining. A 30-ish guy came over and asked if I needed help. Told him "no", Having people come over, asking to help, is not a rare thing. There are a lot of thoughtful people in this world. But it also means I look like an old geezer. It dawned on me that I am old. And old is not a bad thing.
Forget the 'old as you feel" nonsense, you're as old as your drivers license says you are. GeogieXplant , in a post yesterday said, "it gets tiresome being told what clothes to get rid of, how to style my hair, how to decorate my home...all so that I won't look "old". Guess what? I am old! At 80,". Do you feel your age? Do you feel "OLD"?

I don't usually feel old, but I feel helpless at times. Things I used to be able do that I cannot do now frustrates me. Because I use a mobility chair when I go down the street to the store I had to get used to people stopping traffic for me to cross or offering to help me in the store when I can't reach something. I can get out of the chair to get something but if they see me start to do that, they rush over to assist me. At first I felt like it wasn't right for me to take their help, but then I realized if they offered, then they wanted to help. Maybe it makes them feel good to help someone. So now I accept graciously.

Being 75 and disabled must be very challenging Fuzzy yet your independent nature shines through loud and clear. I didn’t feel old until I got a letter from the Motor Registry at age 75 that said I had to get my doctor to fill out a form every year regarding my ‘fitness to drive’. I’m still spitting chips over it. It's insulting.

Mentally I feel like a thirty something, but physically I feel old on some days more than others, I'm 68. If I ever have to use a cane, walker or wheelchair, I will appreciate a stranger coming over to help me out if it seems like I'm struggling. I've helped older folks in my day, and it's nice if you get the same treatment when you need it. My experience is people are basically good and caring.

I became 65 a couple of weeks ago and non! I do not feel old in any way, except, I have always done some extreme sports and now, it is not advisable to do some of them. But that does not stop me from doing the things I can do without breaking bones! I plan at 70 to parachute out of a plane,my husband has already done this, lucky man! Then my final dream will come true, I hope to go into space like "rocket man" Shatner 🚀🚀🚀🚀

My energy level isn't what it use to be but I can still accomplish what I need to get done but at a slower pace and I'm grateful for that.
It's when I can't physically do something that I did 5 years ago, then I feel old,
I can still walk quite a distance but because of the loss of muscle strength in my legs I have a bad time going up stairs or climbing.
You don't realize all those things you were able to do until you can't do them anymore.

Another thing that makes me feel very old is being called, honey, sweetie, or dearie.

I feel like I don't look forward to much of anything any more. I wake up and have the same routine every day, which makes me feel old. I'm slowly getting back in shape, and my knee isn't hurting as bad or getting stiff after I've been sitting for a while, and that's something positive, but I feel like I'm just hanging around because my wife and our dog need me. I don't want to talk to anyone. I don't want to achieve anything. I'm tired of being here and I don't know what I could do to change that.

If someone suggested something, would you do it?

Maybe, but I'll bet it's something I've already done. Scuba diving might be a kick. What did you have in mind?
Maybe you have, but I will go with this anyway:
Grab your wife, give her a big kiss and say, let's go to Lakeside Amusement Park
Go on the rides,go on the merry go round.
Laugh your heads off.
Go to more places like that if you can. Hold hands, keep laughing!
Then one day you may suddenly have a renewed interest in life and a hobby may present itself.
Just a thought :):)

My wife has health problems that prevent her from doing much of anything these days. Going to an amusement park doesn't appeal to me, anyway. Been there, done that... and I get sick from the rides and usually puke. I know, I know... too much information! :)

But I would like a bit of excitement in my life.

Why does being called "Honey," "Sweetie," or "Dearie" make you feel old, Cupcake? 😂

I feel young in an old body!

fuzzy,

When people offer to help let them.

It makes them feel good and sometimes that’s more valuable than the help they provide.
You have answered for Aunt Bea, although on the odd day
I do feel old, if I have done some job the day before that
required a trip up a ladder!

You are lucky mellowyellow, over here I got the same insult
when I turned 70, you got 5 years more of being young.

Mike.

I'm similar age to you, and feel the same way... I have always wanted to sky-dive.. and maybe I'll do it for my 70th birthday if God spares me...

I do a lot of things people my age don't or can't do.. .. every year when I'm abroad for example, I love to paraglide.. ... , I'm a little bit of a hedonist, obviously aches, and age prevent a lot of extreme activities these days , but if I can still do it, then there's no way I'm not going to...(y)
