I've Messaged A Couple Of Sellers On Etsy. Response Complaint.

I don't know if this would bother anyone else. When I send a message/question to a seller, I'll say thank you, sign with my first given name since my Etsy account isn't my name. Usually say hello. I got two responses back where the seller couldn't even bother to say thank you back. Just a flat answer to my question. So they both lost a sale. And that one item I really wanted but I'm not going to get it.

This should be a learning experience for both these sellers. How one treats potential customers/ customers, can make or break you.

My daughter sells on Etsy. She strives to keep her rating high by treating her customers with respect, and going the extra mile for them.

I have found that saying 'Thank you' seems to be a lost art.
Sometimes when I say thank you to someone, they are taken aback and a little surprised by that .... so strange to me.

And when I get a 'You're welcome' back (especially from younger people) I'm surprised! .. lol

I would and do react the same way. Why would I essentially line someones' pocket who is rude to me ?... nope not gonna happen!

I actually messaged the first one back and told her if she had just stated thank you in return, she would have had a sale. I don't like to be confrontational but her terse response really ticked me off. The second one, I'm not going to bother.

There are some great sellers on Etsy and I'm sure your daughter is one of them. Since these two fell through I'm now tempted by a small deer painting I might get instead.

I have communicated with some sellers on Etsy and they generally reply with courtesy. Perhaps some don't because they are very busy. As you say, walking that extra mile sure does help.

I agree that normal pleasantries are good business practice, but why deny yourself the joy of getting a wanted object?

I agree that being polite should be part of every transaction, even if it’s only an insincere habit or custom.

If the seller offered something unique or of great value to me I wouldn’t give it a second thought. Living well is the best revenge! 😊🤭😉

Sometimes I wonder if the lack of common courtesy in our everyday lives is the cost of teaching our children not to talk to strangers.

I notice it when I walk to the store. I always say Good morning! to everyone that passes on the sidewalk. Some ignore me, some respond, and some appear to be shocked. It’s an interesting little study in human behavior.
